The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan

Featured Replies

Freo are in for a long re-build and we're super exciting! especially considering todays team was missing some absolute jets.

I know which i'd choose

but staying or going Jesse was much better today! i think we should keep him up the ground! our marking around the ground with Gawn, Pederson and Hogan was huge today

I don't know if the early games/NAB Cup he was instructed to be more stay at home but now that he's getting more of the ball in the Half Forward line he's looking a lot better.

He's clunking marks and kicking goals, what more could you want from a still developing forward!

The guys an absolute Champion in the making

Compared to round 1 where he was barely offering a lead he looks much better with a bit of time up the ground.

He'd be mad to go to Freo who are going back to the start of their rebuild when we are finally coming out of ours. And screwing up his career by playing for boring-ass Ross Lyon!

He wouldn't know who the coach of Freo is as Ross Lyon has been in discussion with the Suns, he think can take them to a losing Grand Final as long as Zac Dawson is allowed to follow.

He is lovable young man and will mature over the coming two years as we win more games. There is nothing like being in the centre of footy, ask Bernie (Gabe's Favorite) Vince why he moved here and the difference to a satellite town.

Jesse, we love you and you expect 6 goals a game and are disappointed when it doesn't happen, it will happen soon, just be patient.

He just signed a long term deal with the dockers.

Two words from JH's 'Burgo-poster': "WE" and "BELIEF"

Can someone please go over to the Freo board on Big Footy and ask them what....exactly....would be the value proposition to Hogan? !!

I think the coaching staff are using him better. Some time deep and some time up the ground. Firstly makes us less predictable and on Hogan himself he is very aerobic so if you sit him deep the whole time and clog up the space in front of him you can put more of plodder on him - but once you move him up the ground you have to adjust your thinking and have someone on him who can cover ground.

Yeh he was needing to be moe than a goal square sitter or moving around the 40 meter area. Still has a way to go in terms of knowing when to place himself higher up the ground when opponents are coming in under pressure from HB thru mid or wide (when he's sitting back there and not playing high). Doesn't read this part too well yet. WIll improve with experience and coaching here so just a matter of time and more games. Recall Brad Green doing the same in his first season or 2.

Looks very comfortable and solid decision maker when up the ground so why not go there and take his opponent out of his comfort zone. Big body to have roaming around other mids also. Footsteps.

I recall Brad Green ripping it apart in the final against Carlton in 2000.

Referring to games during the season Iva (not all of them lol)... but yes that was a great effort on the day. I was at that game. Most players had a day out. Was a great finals series for us apart from the finish.

We're doing exactly what we need to do, which is win games and generally be on an upward trajectory. To be a club where any player would want to be.

Beyond that it's out of our hands and not worth worrying about.

Very good today. Not bad at all for a decoy.

I would love him to just be a stay at home forward who owns the 50 and kicks bags of goals every other week, but having him roam CHF/wing and drop back towards the goals allows him so much more freedom to attack the game and just be a presence to impose himself. He was great yesterday, dropped one sitter on the flank and missed the snap in the last after I'd already jumped up to celebrate thinking it was a monty, but other than that couldn't fault him.

Judging by the way he screamed in delight at the end of the team song, Id say he loves the club and his team-mates

This thread will look really really silly when he signs on with us at seasons end on a huge long term deal

Hope so - I did notice in the post game interview on the MFC website when they asked him about Howe he kind of mumbled something about no hard feelings after a player leaves a club but hopefully it's just my own neuroses seeing things that aren't there.

Understood Rusty, but if we can even approach that level of final performance in a final's series in the next couple of years, I will be extremely happy.

Forget about Hogan.

If Max goes down we are comprehensively and royally [censored].

touch wood!!

So true. If anyone tunnels him or injures him in a sling tackle, I'll be hunting them down.

The reach of your gaze is beyond my comprehension Iva. Mine goes only as far as this week for a possible 2 in a row. I admire your willingness to dream a little.

For quite sometime, that's all we've really had.  Only difference this time is that the dreams seem somehow more real.

The response by Jesse has been amazing!

Reading a bit too much into it I think mate.

Does Wayne Carey deserve a pat for this? No coincidence that after the that meeting something has clicked for him.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
