AFL - Round 3 (non MFC games)

Featured Replies

Everyone though their additions of Beams, Christensen and Robinson would lift them above that middle pack.

They still have zero tall forwards and zero tall backmen. Until they fix this they will continue to struggle as their gun midfield have nothing to kick it to.

Rockliff and Hanley are massive outs for them as well

The Tigers have absolutely creamed Brisbane. Is it a sign that the Tigers are decent, or that the Lions are terrible?

Should be a good contest on Friday night though.

The pro-Bummer fapping in the media and especially on TV is unbearable and frankly embarrassing by those doing it. Even worse is Tim Watson commentates their games, and today none of the others in the box would say anything less than fawning about the Bummer players.

I must say that I am unable to bring myself to watch EssUndone games at all. The whole thought of them playing, and playing well, given what they have done to the whole image of the game, just a palls me. I even find watching AFL in general far less enjoyable than it was 3 years ago: naïve maybe, but I had thought that (a few or more "recreational drug users" and I hate that term, excepted) the AFL was clean and untainted by the ravages of drugs as happened particularly in cycling. I have become quite disillusioned by the whole saga. For many reasons none the least the drug business, I really hope they don't make a GF, as for the first time in my life I would not watch it.

Geez Ken Hinkley speaks very well. Concise, articulate, smart and excellent grasp what he wants from the players.

Port game last night was a cracker.

Tom Boyd playing well today. Geez Hodge is a champion.

yeah a real cracker

both sides played the same style, attacking play-on footy

i thought nahas possibly ruined norf's chances with 3 bad mistakes in last q

Love to see the Suns beat Geelong today. They are looking sharp

Jack Martin is pure silk! He was the pick ahead of Hogan in the 2012 mini draft. I would still prefer Hogan but you can see why the Suns drafted him where they did.

go Suns

would LOL if the Cats start 0-3 and drop 2 at home

went to see port-north last night. both sides run 10 or more players through the midfield - once again, it's something that we simply don't have. i guesstimate we run 7 or so through the middle across the course of a game. it's just not enough.

Come on GOLD COAST!

For Geelong to start with 3 losses... oh man, that would be glorious.

Suns should be further ahead they have missed some sitters

Same as us vs Adelaide yesterday

Nobody rates West Coast, they're still nothing more than flat track bullies with an over inflated opinion of their list.

Fremantle will destroy them.

West Coast are the biggest bunch of downhill-skiing, soft, flat track bullies I've ever seen. I can't stand the way everyone creams themselves every time Naitanui goes near it, which is probably because he only goes near it twice a game so people get excited. Hopefully Fremantle goes on with it and absolutely flogs them.

Meanwhile Gold Coast has suffered from the same issues as us yesterday - they have had their periods of dominance but weren't putting goals on the board (missed easy kicks and didn't even get shots they should have had). Geelong's now stepped it up and converted (something like 5.2 from 8 inside 50s) and ruined Gold Coast's hard work.

I must admit, any time there's a first quarter like this not involving Melbourne, I always get momentarily excited about the possibility of a 191-point final margin.

Geelong needed only 9 inside 50s to kick 6.2 (38) in that quarter. Gold Coast had a massive 19 inside 50s but scored only 1.3 (9).

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
