Hawthorn vs Geelong today had 73,000. Thats the simple reason why those teams that draw higher will play Geelong at the G rather than skilled

Are you saying that bc 11 teams have to go there it is always us bc we are the lowest drawing? I still don't get it. I just looked about Geelong vs St.Kilda, Bulldogs and North and the story is NOT the same. Why is it just US that receives this punishment? Why is it OUR problem that the overall match attendance is relatively low, we still take 100% of the loss every time because we don't get a home game at all against them ever

They need a certain amount of home games down there and there are not enough interstate teams to send down there so a few vic clubs get shunted down there and we are one of those.

well it is obviously unfair. I would wager there is no other two clubs in the competition that have this type of recent history. Why are we forced to just cop this, it makes my blood boil

I'm travelling to the Alice to see the Dees but I refuse to travel 20km up the Surfcoast Hwy to watch us play the [censored].

It's the principle. My 16 game membership (all Vic games) does not get me entry.

I seem to remember a Friday night game against Geelong in the rain about 6 or 7 years ago and us getting done by the regulation 100+ points of the era. Since then I don't think we've had them back there.

If we start improving, and all signs are good, then lets see what happens. A home and away game for each club is the only FAIR way to do it but a level playing field is turning more and more into a fairytale these days.

Point taken. I guess being a low drawing, shite side we're always going to be one of the teams in the gun for Geelong at Geelong. ... and thinking further I guess we get "given" the queens bday game and perhaps thats part of the deal.

I dunno really but Im with you Curry it IS unfair. Its just that so much of the game ( from the fixture, to the blockbusters, to stadium deals, to the advertising dollar etc etc) is unfair these days its hard for me to get angry about it anymore. I just think when we're a better side, we'll draw a bigger crowd and hopefully not continue to be given the short straw in these things.

I hate how some teams play home games at different venues (interstate home games excluded) because in Melbourne especially the MCG and Etihad are such different grounds in size and shape.

They make a lot of money from filling it up each week and they play the ground which has unique dimensions better than any team.

and they get the crowd factor... which is precisely why its unfair

the only vic side with an edge over the others and we are the main ones to feel that edge

I guess one way of looking at it is this: If there was justice and we played every 2nd game against them at the G, it would really just mean that another game vs team 'x' would be somewhere away from the G - we also have a quota of sorts for MCG games. Therefore, every time they deny us a fixture against GFC at the MCG, it is somehow compensated for by a home game against someone else that we would not have had otherwise. I don't know if that makes sense but I think it does.

I know we played absolute crap that night but one huge factor re the poor attendance that night, as I recall 8/8/08 was the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

But there is no justification for Melbourne being THE club to play more than any other visiting team at Kardinia Park.

Can't wait to see who Roos plays on Clark. Surely won't be Dunny, given their friendship?

Actually, not worth worrying about; he'll suffer a season ending injury by whatever round we play them.

I'm glad we're going there.

We have some unsettled business at that ground. We need to notch up a win there, and after watching Rd 1, it's nice to believe that we can.

Would love to see the Cats fail miserably in 2015.

Used to like them as a club, but they've become a bunch of smug pr!cks over the last 5 years...

We get a good run with interstate games (away) this year. I think a little due to the selling of games but also part of that trade off is the game in Geelong.

It might be harder to win but I'd rather the Geelong game than an interstate trip. To be the best you have to beat the best and the narrow and long ground makes it a super tough ask for travelling teams.

When you consistently deliver the first, the next two will inevitably follow.
