Call me crazy but I don't want Prestia. How many inside mids do we need? We have Viney and Oliver who are the inside contested beasts. We have got Brayshaw with the class and disposal and Petracca with the X-factor and breakaway speed. Not to mention Vince and Jones still playing great footy. Prestia is and will be a great player but he will cost some coin and trade value which I would rather us target our needs. GWS have so much talent in the reserves that just cannot get a game. They will not cost much either. Look at clubs who have already exploited it. Miles, Adams and Tyson are just a few I can think of

If Prestia goes he could get big bucks at a club like Richmond. I love the optimism that he wants to play for the dees but we don't have a heap of cap room until we know what Hogan is doing. 

If we cannot lure a Hurley then a classy runner and ball mover should be our #1 target.

 

Also people here underrate the value of Whitfield. He was a #1 draft pick. 1st rounder + steak knives atleast.

Haven't they sold off their first pick this year, and next, for Trealor?  Hmmm...next year could well turn out to be a top 4 pick that they have given away, which they desperately will need

ANB is definitely an inside mid. 

Prestia is a gun, and would give us more options than we currently have. With Prestia in our side, we could use Brayshaw and Bernie from half back to give us much better disposal from that area of the ground. I would take Prestia any day of the week for a first rounder, and even throw in our second round for their third. (The way they are playing it wont be too much of a downgrade)

Big fan of Saad. Not the strongest defender, but provides terrific run off half back and is a neat kick. A good half back flanker is comparable to a good attacking left or right back in soccer these days. Their attacking capabilities are almost more important than their defensive capabilities. Particularly, when you're playing a zone defence.

-       If a club trades a future first-round selection, it may not trade any other future selection from that same draft. But if a club keeps its future first-round selection, it can trade any of its future selections from other rounds.

Dillon said most clubs had supported this future trading model.

 

Im not sure how the last point works because Pies traded away their first round pick this year for Treloar and their 2nd round pick for Aish. So somehow it didn't apply.

Interesting. I thought you could trade picks two years into the future. I have been set straight.

We made two first round draft selections last year, so technically we don't need to draft in the first round again until the EO2019 draft. Just depends what Taylor and Viney have planned long-term; either preferencing trades for developed, early 20's players like Dom Tyson, or continue to top-up via the draft and stockpile youth like GWS have (essentially building multiple tiers of talent, solidifying your depth and backing in your development team).

Exactly and its looking like that trade was a stroke of genius, early days but the Weed doing very well down at Casey and the Suns would have done that deal banking on us finish bottom 4-6.   

I think Dion Prestia will be a demon in 2017, but i'd much rather Saad! he's exactly what we need, and still has a heap of scope to improve. 

Don't judge Prestia on his 2016 form.  He'll be far better next year if his knee has mended.

In 2013 when just 20 Prestia was runner up in the Suns' B&F to Ablett.  He came third in 2014 averaging 27.1 disposals and in excess of 100 DT/Supercoach points.  He's only averaging 85 this year, so you can see he's not the same player.  His numbers are 15-20% down.

The proviso is his knee.  Fully fit he walks into our midfield and makes us better.  He's also coming into his prime years - 24 from 2017.

As much as we have a lot of inside grunt we do have to remember that Jones only has a few years left... I think Prestia and Viney would play very good with each other.
If we are looking at Gold coast players I would rather go after Aaron Hall and Adam Saad. Hall is very quick and is more of an outsider. Saad would work wonders with Jayden Hunt running off half back. I use to work at Coburg when Saad was playing there and could not believe him and Hartley weren't on an AFL list. Saad at the time had bad decision making but you could see the potential. He creates run and carry but also creates play and gets it moving which for our fast pace attack is what we need.

Paul Ahern & Will Hoskin-Elliott are two who I reckon may well be worth a look at.

Would still prefer Prestia though.  Reckon he could become our rich man's Montagna!

If we can get a guy like Prestia you get him, period. He would walk into our starting 18 easily. As much as we love our players he would easily replace guys like Michie, Stretch, Kent, VDB, Kennedy, Bugg, Harmes etc It's a no brainer and I hope we already made a commitment to him last year to make an offer once his contract with GC was up.

I reckon the only thing stopping us getting him is our performance- if we can continue to look like a team on the rise it should just be a matter of satisfying a trade with the Suns. He probably would've come last time if we weren't such a rabble.

Pies traded the second round selection they got for Freeman. They used their own second rounder in the draft
