Training - Friday 27th March, 2015

No shows Petracca and Trengove, everybody else out there at some stage.

ANB did some of the session in the bright orange 'don't tackle' vest, looked happy to be out there, about another week or two, hoping to get a run with Casey for Rd 1, was moving freely, really appreciative of the care the fitness and medical staff have shown in his rehab.

Casey praccy game may be worth going to watch with Vince, Kent, Brayshaw, JKH, Riley, McKenzie, Fitzpatrick, Vandenberg and King all playing.

Looks like Spencer, Stretch, Pedersen, Terlich, White and Hunt won't be playing.

Howie won't play either but he did the full session, and covered 11km, pulled up really well, hoping to be "super sub" next week, his words.

Most of the drills today stoppage work or ball movement, did drills in four quarters, like a game, last drill involved about 30 players crammed into the 50 and one team trying to get it out.

One highlight of a full length drill was Spencer getting a handball in close in the 50, selling some candy and hammering it into the goal, got a cheer.

Some of it got quite willing, Chunk Jones ended up with a pair of crotchless skins.

Will be putting some pics on Twitter.

Again any questions feel free.

I swung by later in the session by the time the Casey guys were gone.

Seemed to be a focus on getting up and down the ground and then also on in tight handballing. Both were big problems against the Dons so I'm glad they're on to it. Got nice and physical with some tackles in the handballing stuff as well.

Frost again doing work with the rucks and Dawes chiming in for boundary throw in practice. Pedersen neither - seems he'll be used differently this year.

In some ways a shame that Howe did the full session but on the other hand he moved well. It does seem sub at best for round 1.

According to Adam Baldwin - @adamwbaldwin on twitter from fox footy, vandenBerg isn't named for Casey. Are you sure he'll play Saty? If he doesn't play for Casey then I'm concerned that if they rested him for half a training session this week they aren't looking at him for round 1.

I asked him if he was playing and he said yes, Nev Jetta also confirmed it, a bit strange, he sat out with all the others who confirmed they would be playing.

Also forgot, don't think Harmes is playing tomorrow either

Forgot another bit, poor old Chris Salem had a bit of gastro, had to rush off on the golf cart a couple of times, laughed about it at the end, managed to complete most of the session, despite it

Was Howe amongst the defenders or forwards?

Just thought of a conversation I had with another watcher, Brendan McCartney was excellent again today, was just wandering all over the ground, a word here, a gesture there, praising, constructively criticising....reckon if the combo stays together Goodwin/McCartney will be one to watch

Gee my memory is going, one particular bit concerning what a lot of us have been saying was telling Max Gawn to use his size.

Thanks for the training reports Saty.

Thought I'd get in before the shilt storm.

That's ok chap, like to provide the service for those who can never get there, just remembered another bit, as GRRM and I said some of the tackling and drills were willing, believe it or not there was a dust up between Gawn and Garland, nothing major. There seemed to be a movement to flatten the captain a couple of times as well, both Harmes and Cross put him on the ground, have the pics on Twitter

(Not reading a lot of posters now, makes it easier)

Shouldn't be training, in fact shouldn't even be at the club if that was the case.

Might be MFCSS but I'm now predicting we have about 5 missing and 5 under the weather in round 1. You have gastro you stay home people.

Just was going to say he's not quite he who shall not be named of the Port variety (rhymes with Dolly Fines) but ANB has put some serious work in to the quads as well as core since the lay off. He'll likely have to run a fair bit of it off getting back to fitness but right now he's looking like some 2nd or even 3rd year players rock up to preseasons after solid work in the off season.

I look forward to the day when the boys put all this aggression and clean skills that happen at training into a game.

Training has always been and always will be dancing with your sister DemonOX.

The real skills surface in real matches.

I asked him, this is what they do with the young guys now who are off legs, gives them the opportunity to build up the core, looking forward to seeing what they have done to Petracca in his first month or so

This is why we are seeing the 'willing' at training, Roos wants it converted to match day, as well as the kicking skills, so he doesn't mind seeing it at trainning

Always have a good chat to Nev Jetta, they have been told in no uncertain terms Friday was unacceptable and hence this week the focus is on where they fell down in that game

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
