Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Viney's biggest challenge isn't the odd skill error, it's becoming an elite runner. Roos, Lyon, Longmire, Hinkley... all of their game-plan's revolve around being elite two-way runners. He still has a long way to go, but he improved his running markedly over summer.

I reckon he gets a bit of a bum wrap from some supporters. Saturday was his first hit out for the season and he'll only improve. Dan Hannebery didn't take the next step until he'd played 50 games and entered his 4th year. Viney has played 33 coming into his third. Hannebery is an elite runner, which is Viney's challenge. Unlike Viney, running has always been Hannebery's strength.

I reckon he'll have a very good year. Importantly, teammates love playing beside a player like Viney. There's no-one better to run out with than someone who'd kill their Grandmother to get to the footy.

I agree but disagree.

He is too small, lacks skills and speed - so he cannot play forward (except defensive forward and not even then). He can't play back. He's got to make it mid.

That said, he loses his feet too easily, his skills lack polish and he is not big bodied. Unless he proves remarkable at finding the footy and feeding runners, I struggle to see that he'll get game time by the end of 2016. Brayshaw at least will have gone past him.

Just wait until everyone figures out that we picked up him instead of Wines, not Jimmy T. Then you realise that we'd picked Viney hoping that the Hogan/Toumpas options would see us ahead in the long run.

Viney making it is a bonus feature. That draft IMO is all about Hogan and Jimmy T.

Despite his indifferent 2014 I watched a number of last year's games on Foxtel (you know, the few we won plus the two Port games) and I was struck by how good Viney was in most of them. His skills over 35 metres are usually precise and I can't agree with you regarding his speed. While not express, it's above average. Is his body too small ? I wouldn't have thought so.

As you say, we'll agree to disagree, but I reckon his doubters should perhaps keep an open mind and at least see how 2015 unfolds.

On Viney, I agree that he needs to make it as a mid. Other comments a bit harsh particularly for a 20 year old. As mentioned on another thread, I see Viney very much in the mould of his old man. You know what you get. Its about attitude, effort and never say die. Would rather have a guy who may not have the silky skills but will play until he drops rather than the other way round.

The bolded bits could just about be said of Joel Selwood.

Maybe Viney just needs to learn how to buckle at the knees and throw his arms up at the right time when tackled.

He WILL learn the difference between breaking through a tackle, dishing off without being tackled, and getting caught holding it - just like Nathan Jones did

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
