Who's ripping it up? Which players are 'training the house down'?

MELBOURNE

Ask Melbourne officials about Jesse Hogan and they go quiet. It's as if you're asking a major betting stable about a horse before its first start. Melbourne has every reason to be both cautious and excited about the 19-year-old. In two 1km trials held late in December, Hogan ran in the second fastest group of eight players, matching strides then defeating fellow key forward Chris Dawes - a player with a well-earned reputation as a superb track worker. It's not just Hogan's endurance but his delivery inside 50 and the target he provides when charging out of the square that has impressed those observing his progress. Given the back problem that ruined his 2014 season, he is being monitored closely to ensure he develops good training habits and he will be eased back into full match practice. But he has made the best start possible to pre-season. His teammate Jack Viney who was chosen as a father-son selection in the same draft as Hogan is also eating up the work. He had two excellent years off limited pre-seasons but his pre-Christmas period has been exciting for observers. - Peter Ryan

Problem with that article WJ is that it mentions that Ollie Wines is 'training the house down' for PA but neglects to mention that Jimmy Toumpas is similarly 'training the house down' for us. I am fearful of what this post might attract over the next 24 hours.

Any chance we can get Adam Tomlinson to the club when his contract ends? Is he not best mates with Tyson?

He will be a superstar.

As will Bontempelli. But everyone knows that.

Adam may or may not make it to superstar level. He certainly has the athletic tools but to date he has suffered what a lot of our guys have, he hasn't got a lot of the ball and when he has it he has not been effective.

He really started to show something though towards the end of the season. I think if GWS settle him in a position it will improve his game but it seems they use him to plug gaps and again in 2015 that's what they are doing by using him forward. He's been FF, CHF, CHB, FB, BP, FP, HBF, HFF, Wing, Mid and probably has had a go in the ruck.

I reckon he started to settle at CHB and would be a great option to launch attacks from there. He beat up on us from there at the 'G'.

I had info from mate level that he wanted to come home but was trumped by another poster (sorry can't remember who) who had family level info that he and a few of the others had a pact to see it through at GWS. He was right, better info...

I think Adam may have been talked to about a move home and had considered it but in the end decided to stay on.

FWIW the dude on FB who has the MFC supporter page seems to be one of those avid training attendees and he named his best trainers so far as:

1. Hogan

2. Frost

3. Gawn

4. Salem

5. T.McDonlad

I'd be dee-lighted if that is accurate and that it actually translates into gameday value

I don't know but you can add Colin Sylvia to the top of the list for next year. I hear Mitch Clark's going all right down at the Cattery too.

If that guy hasn't got Toumpas and Viney In the list ahead of Salem, then he hasn't attended many training sessions.

that, or it's inherently a wildly subjective evaluation process

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
