I was a little disappointed when Robert Flower died that there wasn't more footage of him either online or on TV when I seemed to remember his last season so vividly..

Anyway, turns out with technology you can do anything these days.. so I dug up these videos at dads place and they're now available on YouTube..

I loved them all as a kid, shouting out the commentary and as I destroyed various items of furniture kicking footballs up and down the hallway..

So here's 3 of his last 4 games in pretty extended packages..

Round 22 vs Footscray -

Most of the second half. Just skip straight to 24:05 for the best passage of the day and for those of us who were at the Western Oval that day pretty hard to forget.

Elimination Final vs North -

Semi-Final vs Sydney -

Flower had 4 goals to half time and some of the passages started by Wight at full back are incredible. "From Wight, to Hughes, to Healy and there was no stopping them."

For some reason we didn't keep a video of the following week..

They're a great trip down memory lane and capture three now sadly passed away former MFC players in Robert Flower, Jim Stynes and Sean Wight at their best.

Given their recent cuts, I'm not sure that ABCs lawyers are going to come after me for putting them up, though Tim Lane might for that suit..

If you're interested I've also got more from the 88 finals series that I can put up.. curiously, the last game of that series seems to be missing from the collection too however..

Thanks for those, that Western oval game was the happiest I have been as a Dees supporter, absolute ecstasy it was.

The finals where we smashed North and Sydney were amazing too, to this day I have not heard a louder crowd,forget about collinwood, our chants of Melbourne.....Melbourne......shook the stands.

Thanks for those, that Western oval game was the happiest I have been as a Dees supporter, absolute ecstasy it was.

The finals where we smashed North and Sydney were amazing too, to this day I have not heard a louder crowd,forget about collinwood, our chants of Melbourne.....Melbourne......shook the stands.

A day anyone who had ventured into that hostile territory will always remember fondly...even if the heart got a real work out !!

I went to the first final, expecting us to be belted to be honest.......I was fairly happy with being a couple of points the difference at quarter time

I then saw some of the best team football that I've ever seen for the next 3 quarters and was just dumbfounded

The next week I thought that we had played our best footy the week before but it just kept getting better and better

I still have the videos of both games and get them out just to remember how good we were with such a young team.....

You are a legend. Unfortunately, for virtually all of us who were at the Doggies game and were either just too young to remember, like me or not born yet, to have seen '64, that game and that season from the last 6 games on, is by far and away the highlight of my Dees following career. From memory we had to win every game for the last 6 rounds to qualify. It never seemed possible. I went to all of them. Other than that final win to crack the finals for the first time in my living memory, I also cherished going to the Collingwood Social Club with a Pies supporting friend and listening to everyone there tell me how we had absolutely no chance and I frankly didn't give us much more chance than that. And we got up and won. No better venue. As an aside their Social Club back then was still miles ahead of any facility we have today. Ie none.

Like a lot of people, went along to the Nth game not confident, then the Swans who during the season were the only team to this day to kick, I think, 150pts in three games in the one year. I think they might have been consecutive. They looked unbeatable. What a win. Won 't mention the next game. And so happy for Robbie as each win prolonged his career for another glorious week.

A very good mate of mine played for North that day. North entered the arena first. The North boys could not believe the roar when Melbourne entered the ground.

It was an amazing time. It felt like the enire city of Melbourne was behind us

Yes.....It was the feel good story of the year.......We were everyone's second team........Most supporters who did not support Nth or the swans were barracking for us

Huge crowd.......Great atmosphere.....Aaahhh....Those were the days.....

Just watched the North and the Sydney games. Lots of observations about the difference in the game between then and now, but let's just go with something else: if young Billy Stretch is anywhere near as good as his old man, we've got a good one.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
