AFL National Draft 2014 Pick 40

Featured Replies

why would you elevate anyone now, wait to see how the preseason and nab cup etc goes before you choose your rookie to promote, that way you have 4 players all vying for that spot in the senior list.

You cannot elevate anyone until the eve of the season.

after watching Langdon's profile on AFL website, I'd be more than happy to get him. Can't wait for draft day now!

Thankyou...so many dont quite get how it all works

Listening to Todd Viney and Jason Taylor tonight at AAMI park, Tom McDonalds brother Oscar is unlikely to be there at pick 40 but I have a feeling they are keen on him there if he is available.

Also get the feeling that they are really keen on Lever and a chance to jump McCartin

Funny, I felt the other way.

I am not unhappy about the pick 23 deal for Frost, but am disappointed that we will not have a chance at Oscar McDonald, Tom's brother who will go before 40.

I get the feeling, the bigger, younger brother, will blossom as an AFL player. It would have been nice to have the 2 brothers with us.

I actually hope he is drafted by an interstate club, giving us a chance to get him later and less of a chance of Tom wanting to leave us and join him.

I really wish we had kept pick 23 and grabbed frost in the PSD

Brayden Maynard or Tom Lamb along side the players we take at picks 2 & 3 to me presents much more value than Frost and pick 40

Do you expect Tom McDonald to hold down FB all year, and what are your contingency plans if McDonald or Dunn get injured?

Frost is our new FB, he is ready to go, and if we had to pay pick 23 for him, so be it.

we could have got him in the PSD, we didn't have to give up anything to get him IMO

But then we would not have gotten that extra draft pick coming back to us.

What if Stkilda took Membrey with a late pick freeing them up to take Frost in the PSD, or what if Stkilda just took Frost with one of their last picks?

That is not my info. Saints were EXTREMELY keen.

BTW, check out the Frost highlights on the Melbourne website; they are very impressive, and should be noted- highlights taken from AFL games. We salivate over highlight packages taken from kids in TAC Cup etc, well Frost has had experience in the big leagues and has shown something. He is the one player that was available in this draft with runs on the board and all things being equal could be considered top 3 pick worthy

I wish we could've as well but we couldn't. The saints would've taken him.

So:

Frost >>>> PSD 2

Pick 53 >>>> Pick 81

And it's up to the recruiters to find a guy at pick 40 who's as good as pick 23.

To be honest I'd like a pick around pick 30 or even 35, I think there's enough talent in this draft to get to those picks easily. Only time will tell if it holds out to pick 40.

Scenario 1: ND23 and someone at PSD2 or DFA. No Frost.

Scenario 2: Frost, ND40, and ND53.

No other scenarios look plausible to me. The Saints got Membrey in DFA, they would be in negotiations right now with Frost if we didn't do that deal.

I don't think we made a bad decision here.

The bad decisions may come with ND40 and ND53 however...

If we could somehow get Brayden Maynard, James Rose, Keenan Ramsay... That'd be music to my ears.

Oscar McDonald or Ed Langdon.

I was there last night as well and, from the body language, I felt that they were very keen on McCartin. Either that or Taylor and Viney are very good actors.

Was there any other information in regards to picks 2 and 3 WJ?? And if not who would be yours picks 2 and 3 going off the info night??

we could have got him in the PSD, we didn't have to give up anything to get him IMO

Frost would not have been there for us in the PSD. He would be playing for St Kilda instead. Our selectors aren't stupid as to the process or the odds.

Correct. We lost Hannath a little while ago the same way. Once bitten.

I don't think Hannath has been a huge loss at this stage. But he he may develop into something. Time will tell.
