Finals 2015

Featured Replies

Melbourne should be aiming to play finals next year.

I was going to write some long-winded spiel about how we always look to and dwell the past, but that's dwelling on the past.

Be positive, be bold and aim high. This should be the Melbourne of 2015.

We won't be making the finals until we've cut out the duds off of our list, look at Hawthorn and Sydney, even Fremantle, their 'duds' would easily fit into our best 22. This year we had Strauss, McKenzie, Blease, Tappy, etc, on our list, they're VFL at best, and some don't even perform well at that level.

Given where our VFL team finished on the ladder, you're being generous there hulkhogan.

Bring in Hogan, Malceski, Mitchell, Brayshaw, some confidence, extra pre-season into Viney, Tyson, Salem, Kent etc and we could sneak into 7th or 8th. But I highly doubt it.

Neither Malceski nor Mitchell are coming to us if you believe the reports.

Why not. Port have shown its not impossible. We have alot of unfulfilled talent and alot of currency heading into the draft and trade week(s)

Get me two more mids better than Matt Jones and we might get there.

Tyson, Jones, Vince, Cross, and Viney aren't enough.

It's not about if it will happen, it's about setting high expectations and no longer being stuck in the past.

Didn't we all do this last year?

Exactly right CB....It is a state of mind.

If we do not make the finals...we work out why...Target the weakness and fix it.

We have to stop thinking a high draft pick is a prize....a draft pick is a tool, nothing more.

Hawthorn have expected to make late September since 1971...and pretty much succeeded..

This is the New Melbourne i hope Roos touched on at the B & F....

I'm expecting a flag.

I love this time of year. No reality smashing me in the face, and I can dream my little dreamy dreams.

It feels good until about 15min into the first game....

Kennedy, Hannebery, Jack, Mcveigh, Parker ... McGlynn, Jetta, Bird

Lewis, Mitchell, Shiels, Langford, Smith, Hill

N Jones, Tyson, Viney, Vince .... add 2-3 more before we can start talking of the top 10 !!

We should always aim for the top 8, Always!

Reality is we wont get there unless we get 20% improvement from half the list and 75% from the other half.

Yes Spirit unfortunatly Sydney have about 10 players better than our best and an attitude to winning that we dont possess yet

We do it every year Steve. It's a hope thing. Then by about half time in round 1 we are all shitted off again, hope is gone and we turn on each other on Dland.

History repeats itself.

Yes BOM. Stupidly based on hope I pick the Dees every year in the tipping to win Round 1 and lose every time! So the team thing I am going to do next year is tip against us for the first time since 2002. Expect a win!

If we can get a nice forward to go with hogan and some more run out of the back line & midfield there is a chance. The good thing is we have some currency in the draft to help our cause.

Always love your work Clint but could you explain BOM?

Too many beers I guess BBO. Apologies

Yes. Doubt he will get another game next year if we can even slightly improve on our mids. A clanger machine

Onto the wine now BBO. A lovely rutherglen red

I think it's possible. A full pre-season for more players, some solid acquisitions in the off-season and those 6 or so games we led in the fourth but lost become wins. 12 wins get you in.

To be honest though I'd much rather see this team beat or at least PERFORM against the likes of Geelong, Hawthorn, North and Collingwood. Those teams have pushed us around for too long.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
