My point also. I never mentioned Trengove/Grimes

I am talking about just days ago when Roos + Co. opted NOT to put any young guns like Tyson/Viney/MCDonald in the LG

For some reason some cant work out it is exactly the same as Port putting Wines in.

Yes, on the surface they look the same because of age. But differences for mine are:

- Wines has established his playing credentials consistently for 2 years and has had several match winning performances. Love all 3 players but neither Tyson, Viney or McD have achieved either of these.

- Wines has been identified as future captain material and is being groomed for that. T/V/McD may not be viewed as LG material by the club (notwithstanding we on DL think they are) just yet.

- Roos has consistently said he wants to stop this 'kid will be our saviour' mentality. Just let them enjoy the game and focus on their role.

- Not all good players want to be in a LG. Examples: Dane Swan, Ryan Griffin

Wouldn't be surprised to see one of T/V/McD in our leadership group next year. So their day will come. I'm happy to let them learn from our experienced LG group before they are asked to step up.

To Ollie, good on him. Port don't seem a gratuitous club so he must be doing something very special on and off the field.

I thought we were in general agreement that giving leadership positions to kids is a strategy fraught with error, one that we have learned the hard way and have now opted to stay away from

I wouldn't say it's always the wrong decision Curry. It depends a lot on the type of support they get and who is around them.

BTW. I've been doing some online stalking er research of your squeeze. (Hope you don't mind) A real doll in the swimming cossie what ho!!!

What annoyed me about this decision was my right or wrong perception that Neeld and co were deliberately being hip and 'counterintuitive' ie not picking Wines for the very fact that he was a demon supporter/friend of Viney - Need also coming from 'outside the system'. ... if any of this makes sense.

If we had of drafted Wines, perhaps we would have won more games in 2014 and then we wouldn't of had the draft picks enabling us to get Petracca and Brayshaw...

But then, if we had drafted Wines, he might have had a career-ending injury at his first training session and we might still have got Petracca and Brayshaw. Endless vistas of speculation...

There are 10 good reasons why anyone who thinks/says 'we should have picked Wines over Toumpas' is just plain wrong and stupid. I've been through it too many times though

And then, if we had drafted Wines, we might of won 8 games last season and would currently have 30,000 members signed up.

Does anyone else think he looks like the Russian from Rocky IV?

A little bit...

Wines would have been good for us, but the ball bounced the other way. This is the nature of the game. The club has moved on with some great second and third efforts. All will be well!

I have heard the word.

Thanks be to Roos.

My shrink once told me to stop worrying about mistakes made in the past, because there is nothing you can do to change it.

That even if you had made different choices in the past, there's no way of knowing what potentially worse events may have occurred in its place.

Moral of the story?

GET. OVER. IT.

Tommy Rotcliff and Wines along with Jones, Tyson and Viney, hmmm what could have been and one could add Sloan. That is some mid field lost in our missed opportunities

Why?

Why do we keep doing this to our selves and constantly have to regret the past.

The misery Demons fans wallow in is well-founded given the last 8 years of results, but far out... it's time to move on! Do you see every other club that passed on Wines wallowing in their own pity every time this kid takes another step forward? Be happy for a great young man making his mark on the game. Port have experienced a rags to riches story we all hope Melbourne can replicate, but the longer we dwell on the past the harder it is to look forward to a bright future.

Lamenting the past achieves nothing. You can't do anything about it, so be proactive about what you can control, what you can change. I'm yet to see a single trade or draftee since Roos came onboard that hasn't been a raging success.

I refuse to get over this until Jimmy gives Ollie a bath when we vs Port and he collects 3 Charlie votes.

Until then, the Whines Lounge will get traffic.

Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and move on. The continuation of the Wines v Toumpas thread is truly ridiculous.

Add Luke Parker to that. Overlooking the Vic Metro Captain in Parker when we were a club deficient of leaders.

I think to me that was the big one. Rockliff is every clubs mistake - bar one, and Sloane wasn't the player that he is today.

Luke Parker was a big miss for this club.

Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and move on. The continuation of the Wines v Toumpas thread is truly ridiculous.

This is a separate thread specifically for the whining, Ethan.

You're allowed to be truly ridiculous.

Give it a try..

I'm constantly surprised how often we share the same view on most subjects Lumashtu.

I'd rather kick a dead horse.

Hang on...

I'd rather kick a dead horse.

Hang on...

Kick, [censored] - whatever..

Although nowadays, flogging a dead horse brings about all sorts of connotations.

ED: Lol, there you have it. "Fl og" is censored.

[censored] me.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
