Let hope Ollie wants to move in 6 years under free agency to help his best mate Captain Jack Viney carry this team on his back to finals. Shortly by them Port will be no good and we may actually be competitive again.

They both have big heads!

They both just look like babies. It's easy to forget how young 20 is (and seems to get younger the further away I get from it!).

This thread seems to be slowing down so I thought I should reignite it.

You cruel bastard.

Still, I will save my biggest ever whinge for this thread when we trade Toumpas back to Adelaide as part of the PD deal.

Lmao 6 years??

Port are the third youngest team in the AFL behind GWS and GC. They will be successful side for the next 10 years.

I can see a Geelong or Hawthorn like golden years coming up for them.

Perhaps we should have taken him instead of Viney!

pmsl :)

Yeah, that way would see him causing explosions at centre bounces with Jimmy Toumpas.

I thought we were in general agreement that giving leadership positions to kids is a strategy fraught with error, one that we have learned the hard way and have now opted to stay away from

The difference is they promote him to the leadership group and we make them captains of the worst team in the comp! haha (if i didnt laugh i'd cry)....

That's not quite the difference - we could have done this exact thing recently with Dom Tyson and/or Viney, we didn't, and everyone said it was a good move not to place unnecessary burden on our kids

so if you WANT to, you can look at it like Port are making a mistake that we are wise enough to avoid

or if you WANT to, you can beat yourself up some more over a stupid Toumpas-based discussion that is just wrong in ten different ways

I think the difference is wines is that good, we put kids with potential in the leadership positions, wines is a genuine gun

Tyson is better than him and Viney nearly as good

Both Viney and Tyson didn't have brilliant pre seasons last year so i think they will certainly be much better this year because of the more solid prep they have had,

My point was more that Trengove was captain at 19, i thought his form was promising but Wines been very good consistently in a very strong midfield, i reckon he is in a better position to take a leadership title in his stride than Trengove was when he was given it

That was the point i was making. Old Melbourne not the new refreshed Melbourne under Roosey

Sucked in Port, I bet they have no idea how well Toumpas has been training!

Classic! I still can't stop laughing.

Was it just me, or did anyone else think that article was written by Hairy Thing?

Google 'Hairy Thing.'

Besides Chewbacca, there's a few other interesting images.

My point also. I never mentioned Trengove/Grimes

I am talking about just days ago when Roos + Co. opted NOT to put any young guns like Tyson/Viney/MCDonald in the LG

For some reason some cant work out it is exactly the same as Port putting Wines in.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

    TRAINING: Friday 28th February 2025

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
