Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm normally a very optimistic Melbourne supporter.. But unfortunately I just can't see any big improvements next year on the back of this trade period so far.. Looking at this years ladder.. GWS finished with 2 more wins above us.. they have added Griffen, Patfull and have a handful of picks in the top 10 to go with their current list of guns. Then above them? Brisbane.. who arguably now has one of the top 3 midfields in the comp. The gap between them and us IMO will grow and we will be lucky to hold off Saints for 17th spot end of next year.

The thing that worries me most, is keeping current players in the red and blue & making it an attractive destination for free agents.. We need to start winning and climbing up the ladder.. I just can't see it happening.

This isn't having your glass half full at all, this is having your glass half full of honest truth and realism.

1 hour to go. Any player trades that weren't already in the works yesterday are well and truly off the table now.

All that would be left is pick movements, such as 6 & 7 from GWS for pick 1 from the Saints.

At least one place up the ladder would be nice.

Yes, don't think too grand. Less disappointment that way!

Well I'm off to a meeting that may take an hour.

I hope that when I return we'd have landed Dangerfield, Kennedy & Frost for pick 2 & Sam Blease.

Are you sure you haven't been asleep and dreaming for an hour?

Surely we cant enter the 2015 season with approx. $1 million spare in the cap.

Roos says we must see improvement and not go through another re-build.

Find a trade, make it happen!

Front loading of contracts, particularly Jones if he re-signs. Payouts of delisted players is another option. If we cut mckenzie/ evans their wage will be included under next years salary cap (assuming clarks payout fell under this years cap as reported in the papers).

I'm expecting him to find it difficult to hold down a roll in the team, especially with the inclusion of HL on the HBF, and the addition of JG in the forward line (I realise Howe isn't a small forward like JG, but JG's inclusion will push someone out).

As you said, he's not the player that will lead the team, so what will his role be? Take a screamer? We will need more than that from him (and all our players) if we are to rise up the ladder.

Personally, I thought he struggled on the HBF this year, which is concerning for the position known as the "easiest to play". He didn't know when to mark or spoil, he doubted himself at contests, which against a decent HFF, will bring you unstuck and will make you a target.

Would have him ahead of Grimes on a HBF, is just as effective at intercepts and provides way more rebound. If he's playing in the backline we choose who matches up on him, if there's concern over his defensive abilities we put him on the least likely to be damaging. JG won't affect Howe in the forwardline, he will keep either one or both of Kent or JKH out of the side. If he's played as a swingman I'd have him in the team ahead of Watts. TBH I'd almost put him ahead of Dawes at CHF, he plays the role better than Dawes does.

What will his role be? Be a role player. Either providing rebounds (was 2nd at mfc behind Dunn in 2014) or I50's.

But unfortunately I just can't see any big improvements next year on the back of this trade period so far.. Looking at this years ladder.. I'm not confident we will rise up the ladder too far/ get a bunch more wins, but can see us passing at least 2 of the WB, Coll, Ess and Carlton and we will stay above St Kilda. As you say, off the back of trade week GWS and Bris will almost be in the 8.

Hogan, Lumumba and Garlett fill 3 massive holes in our 2014 side. We will have more run and more targets to kick to in the fwd50 (Pedersen/ Howe/ Hogan/ Dawes to play forward) and a player to crumb the dropped marks. We will have the players to play a more attacking game style. Toumpas may surprise some people and be a regular 22 player.

Unless something drastic happens within 90 minutes, we are set for another bottom 3 finish.

Disappointing trade week.

I'm positive that we will be fighting for eight spot. Heretia Lumumba and Jeff Garlett are excellent pick-ups and add to our team and i have faith that with a another pre-season under Roos the team will be much fitter, drilled and focused. And don't forget we have a top draft pick who is ready to go and will have a instant and bigger impact than Boyd and all this years draftees.....our own Jess Hogan.

Thinking grand would be finishing outside the bottom 5 for the first time in 9 years.

Has it been that long? I have been in a daze these last several years thinking I'd wake and it was all a bad dream... so Daniher isn't coach any more?

The fact that decent midfielders are moving all over the place when we've brought in none, would indicate our shopping list was very narrow.

or it could mean that we asked after 150 midfielders and they all said no.

Now prove me wrong.

You are guessing because you want to see movement.

AFL website reporting that GWS and Dees are still in discussion for Frost

Maybe a sneak late trade?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-16/live-trade-period-deadline-day

  1. 12.43pm: @AFL_petryan reports that slow progress is being made in negotiations between GWS and Melbourne in relation to Sam Frost. He can go through pre-season draft if deal not done. Frost, in his third season at the Giants, played 16 games this season to take his tally to 21. Melbourne won’t be parting with pick No.23 in exchange for him but it might be prepared to slide that pick to get deal done. The Demons have pick 2,3 and 23 and then pick 83 so hard deal to get done.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
