demoniac 1,337 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Not sure what the etiquette is about passing this on, but just ran into the cousin of Jono O'rourke from GWS at a bar in Vienna. Reckons he's close to heading our way. Also told me some things about Watts' behaviour under Neeld but that Roos had really sorted him out. Take this as you will, merely passing on what I heard. Over and out. What position does O'Rourke's cousin play?
dee-luded 2,959 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Speed is an over rated concept. Players who are quick in the mind and are footballers rather than athletes are those who are most important in finals. Mitchell,Hodge,Lewis,Kennedy,Bartel,Selwood are all vital to their sides come finals and none possess blistering pace but they all possess football smarts and an ability to read the play. We have to few of these footballers and would prefer someone who makes good decisions backed up with equally good disposal. One of the main reasons we are terrible is that we make poor decisions under pressure and we struggle to hold the ball because we can't consistently hit a target. If Brayshaw can assist in addressing this he will be great and will make us better. agreed T-34, we need real footballers who have the goods rather than hamstring tearing speed. they need reasonable pace, or better, great awareness & footy smarts, tough, hard at the ball, have the requisite skills, but most of all, an insatiable want to WIN. we cannot afford any more wimps in our ranks.
Clayton van Oliver 1,829 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 What position does O'Rourke's cousin play? He was holding up the half forward flank of the bar
bing181 9,481 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Just on O'Rourke, is clearly on the move somewhere, this from the Hun a few days back: "Greater Western Sydney will also lose versatile big man Kristian Jaksch and possibly slick midfielder Jono O’Rourke in the trade period. Jaksch is meeting with Melbourne clubs, believed to include Carlton and Western Bulldogs, while O’Rourke is considering his future. O’Rourke was taken with Pick No. 2 in the 2012 national draft but has played nine games in two years. He is weighing up a chance to move home to Victoria for more senior opportunities and to be closer to family. A decision from O’Rourke is expected next week."
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Brayshaw to me looks the staffer bet. I'd trade pick 3 out whilst declaring Braysgaw is ours at #2- if you want McCartin or Petracca with 3, pay the price. Draft tampering sweet dee. Not a sweet idea.
Jesse Christ 2,884 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 How's that draft tampering? We're saying who we're taking
Tatu 416 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Draft tampering sweet dee. Not a sweet idea. lol... You say that as if it hasn't happened before...
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 How's that draft tampering? We're saying who we're taking You can't rule out St K taking Brayshaw at 1, so you can't declare him as "ours". And any trade that ensures he goes to us at 2 would be tampering. Having said that, tatu is spot on. It's no doubt happened plenty of times before. Has to be done on the quiet, not by declaring anything or telling other clubs to pay the price.
Jesse Christ 2,884 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Well then you say it without saying it. Do a leak ala drugdon with Heppel.
spirit of norm smith 16,681 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Like it Spirit, but I think Petracca will go pick 1. What about Brayshaw at 2? Yes for me ... 1st option is Petracca ... then Brayshaw if Petrecca is gone
Vanilla Gorilla 204 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Yea fair point which I asked as well, he just relayed a story that had been passed on. Should have left that bit out, and not the point. Just not every day you run into ppl in Europe with AFL connections so thought I'd pass it on, take it or leave it. Fair enough. Do appreciate the input.
Vanilla Gorilla 204 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but could we trade Pick 2 to GWS for Jono O'Rourke and Sam Frost?Would be the classic Roos 2-for-1 trade ala Pick 2 for Tyson and Salem. Would that be better than drafting Petracca or Brayshaw?
wattsjurrahdunne 88 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Can't believe there are still Demonland supporters that think it was a 2 for 1 deal. I thought only lazy journalists thought that. Once again, Roos gave Picks 2 & 20 for Tyson & Salem. With those picks we could have taken Kelly or Bontompelli PLUS Lewis Taylor. I must be the only one that doesn't think we pulled off the trade of the decade.
Little Goffy 14,986 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 If Pick 3 comes our way for Frawley. Get Petracca with 2 - no messing around, just grab the best mid and run. Trade Pick 3 to Gold coast for Picks 8 and 15. Picks 2, 8, 15, 21, Stretch. Bake in a medium oven, slowly increasing heat, for 2 years. Meanwhile, anyone noticed the 2015 free-agency pool? Clean space in the salary cap by bringing in draftees now, and front-ending everything we can for the 2014 season. Aim for some natural, credible development in 2015 then go all-out at the 2015 free agency pool with a clear mission of acquiring multiple serious players simultaneously. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't think now is the time to go after big names.

I must be the only one that doesn't think we pulled off the trade of the decade. Pick 2 for Tyson was a steal on its own. The upgrade put us in position to grab one of four very highly touted midfielders, Freeman, Sheed, Aish and Salem. The spare pick exchange at the end also turned 72 into 54, which got us Viv Michie from Fremantle. It was a no brainer and a huge win.

Machsy 2,858 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I'm a fan of getting O'Rourke, but at nowhere near that cost. Same with Frost. He's simply not worth that much. A 3rd rounder is maybe correct weight, while O'Rourke probably a late 1st rounder. Or a Toumpas, has done as much.
1964nowMORE 493 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 How about pick 3 to GWS for frost and pick 4?
Older demon 2,830 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 2012 draft Whitfield (25 games), O'Rourke (9), Plowman (11), Toumpas (18), Stringer (23), MacRae(30), Wines (33), Mayes(39), Vlastuin(35), Daniher (26 & FS pick), Menzel (26), Jaksch form the top 12. So after 2 years pick 2 and 12 are allegedly returning to Victoria and many here want to trade Toumpas. Whitfield looks all class but has been injured a lot. Maybe the success of Wines is colouring everyones view as all these draftees are expected to be at his level. Mayes has been equally impressive but being in a lesser team there isn't as much written about him. In terms of a career they all have a lot of developing to do, these guys are babies and I imagine GWS losing 2 top 12 draft picks will not be happy.
jazza 1,323 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Im thinking of a simple trade for our club with freo. Clarke=Clark

But yes, it was a great deal and just what we needed.
Demoneyes 562 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 That price would be Wines. Jimmy was 4 and Wines 9. Jimmy hasn't reached his potential due to injuries. It is April 1 isn't it? Yes, another bad decision made there!

My mate describes him as a "Cale Morton" type! That sends shivers down my spine! My mate also said we are showing interest in Tomlinson.
