I guarantee we will be offering a very large contract for him. Whether he wants to join us is another question.

Lol....

Bloke at work is convinced the deal's been done with Geelong for Menzel and Mackie.

Because they're both from SA?

He has NFI.

'Bloke at work' is a moron.

Mackie is considering retirement, best case scenario is one more year, and as if Geelong would give up Menzel now that he's finally got himself right after 4 years on the sidelines.

Good player with one year left in his career combined with the most injury prone (albeit very talented) player in the game doesn't get you one of the top 5 players in the comp.

LOL because Adelaide are opening a retirement/rehab centre?

Never mind the fact that Geelong can have him for free

Never mind the fact that Geelong can have him for free

yes but crows can match the offer and force a trade ...

he will then be on x amount of years at x amount of dollars at the crows.

the only way will be a trade , so look at it this way

melbourne offer a trade of pick 5 ( whatever our first pick is) and player , agreeing to pay whatever is on offer from geelong ( or more) , so crows match it knowing they will get a better pick from us

or he stays at crows , Crows hold all the cards as a RFA , the only way I see otherwise if he gets a monster deal which the crows can't match

could another be Veale ( name ?) deal .....

Nobody has matched a rival club's RFA offer and I doubt Adelaide will be able to pay him anywhere near what Geelong/whoever will offer.

He will sign with Adelaide and I'll actually be happy about that. I like to see stars remain loyal to their club.

Adelaide would be better off with the compo than trading for Mackie and Menzel.

yes true But wasn't there a article about geelong paying 1.2 for 2 years the 400k for next two so it would be 800 per year average and be the max Geelong would pay

as Crows couldn't match the 1.2 but can match the 800k

I do agree with you that its unlikely but that option is there and a smart club could pull it off if needed, food for thought

Yeah and means Geelong wont get him for free! God that would [censored] me off if they landed him

If I were a recruiter, I wouldn't be keen to trade for a defender who has seen his best years, and a guy who has had FOUR knee reconstructions.

Nek minnit, 'bloke at work' is Damien Barrett.

doesn't make sense

if they trade then not a fa deal then no fa compo

either scenario they get a first rounder

and.....danger would have to agree

trade seems highly unlikely

Spoke to Brendan McCarthy today while he was shopping in Geelong. Known him a while now.

Two things stuck out from our chat.

He thinks the Dees are 18 months off where the Doggies are at.

When I mentioned Dangerfield. He smiled and said "We're certainly having a crack!".

So why did we beat them convincingly in pre season and again 14 weeks ago.

More arse cake expectation management.

Just win you time serving parasites.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
