Let's hope it is. We'd lose that one anyway and have him back for a win in round 2.

But we all know we'll probably draw another bottom 6 team in round 1 to get our season off to the usual embarrassing loss or heaven hope a win.

Both of Dawes' suspensions this year were incredibly soft....every week we see players not even cited for similar acts.

And I agree the MRP are inept and / or corrupt. The Merrett vs Pedersen non decision was a bloody disgrace. How can they claim consistency??

Buddy would look at that, with what he has got off this year and laugh his head off.

Good on him. Hope he runs workshops on how to do it for the others, especially one J Watts.

.... any truth to the rumour that watts wears Tenna Lady under his shorts on gameday?

He better be ready to give it a good bloody crack in round 2.

Let's hope we ARE playing a team like that. At least then his absence won't impact our chances of winning in any meaningful way.

Can't believe he has accepted the penalty.

Then again he is always injured the first few rounds.

Regardless of how soft the suspension is, he is silly and irresponsible for putting himself in that position to begin with.

It was dumb, unnecessary, and added nothing to our ability to win the match, while also hurting our ability to win round 1 next season.

Terrible leadership.

He will probably just be injured anyways.

Agree. I'm sick of our players getting themselves rubbed out for acts which are neither tough nor brave. Jetta is another with form in this area. Dunn at least seems to have removed it from his game.

I wish our players would just go after the ball.

I don't recall that we had a systemic problem with this in the season just gone. Is there data somewhere that shows how many of our players were suspended during the year and how that compares with other clubs?

Sticks in my guts that that [censored] Merrett got off for his dangerous and damaging hit on Pedo while Dawes gets a week for stupidity

Absolutely.

Pedo should sue Merrett for that on-field assault.

and Mitch Clark

Don't tease me like that, I couldn't be more keen for a line-up with that duo.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
