GAME DAY - Round 17

Roos and co need to work out how to get the ball out of the defensive 50. FFS!

Thank [censored] I'm outta here tomorrow and won't see the massacre that is going to be a trip to Adelaide to play Port.

It's got nothing to do with the game plan, again basic skill errors are killing us, we deserve to be 10 goals down

Isnt that [censored] Russell howcroft who is on our board?

Why do they film it in hd if they aren't going to screen it?

No, it was Lachlan Murdoch, who pulled Ten out of the rights to increase Foxtel's exclusivity of the game and push more people towards pay TV subscriptions.

And they film in HD because the agreement with Foxtel and the AFL means all games must be produced in HD as part of their broadcast deal.

The fact that Frawley can miss 3 Melbourne players and kick it onto the chest of the only Geelong player in the area, their ruck McIntosh, is sheer brilliance.

So brilliant, I hope another club plays him $800k+ for a seriously log contract....

Not looking good.

How Dean Kent missed the goal I do not know - all he had to do was run in a straight line at goal.

Not looking good at all.

Should not have taken that bounce.

Shocking negativity for the last 5 minutes. Playing the clock down and trying to stop them scoring rather than making the play.

Melbourne has gone goalless in the first quarter in four of their last eight games against Geelong.

How many goalless first quarters have we had this year? I'm guessing at least 6.

Riley has looked very good bringing the ball outof congestion on a couple of occasions. Looks really impressive given his lack of games.

And how brilliant he did it with the entire Geelong coaching and playing group watching on, considering how "interested" in him they are! Might take $100k off the contract.

Jack Watts with 1 possession so far and avoiding physical contact at all costs

What a great use of pick 1 that was

Poor skills from the dees.

Just trying to restrict Cats scoring. Eventually they will smash us.

10 scoring shots and 20 inside 50s vs. our 2 scoring shots from 9 inside 50s

the guy couldn't even get his cookies back from the cookie monster

Free kicks 8 to 4 there way..

Getting ugly now.

This is starting to look like a demolition.

Tackling technique is awful just putting arms out

Dig the bloody shoulders into their hips, we need to make tackles stick or we won't win games

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.
