No he wasn't.

Langdon has been solid in all 7 games.

JKH has slowly built something, week by week.

Which is why its a crap award. Only 2 players in the history of the award have won it being nominated after rd 8 I think. Cousins and N Reiwoldt.

It USED to be for a player that will BECOME a gun. Now its a B&F for young players who play lots of games.

It BS as far as I am concerned.

JKH can be very good for us. Don't care if he doesn't get nominated.

Agree jnr

It is also the kiss of death for most MFC players who get nominations the only one that I can remember us getting good valve out was Rivers. Most of the others fade away after a couple of years never to be seen again.

Aha. He did.

"Jones broke into the Demons senior side late in 2006 and maintained his spot right throughout the finals, earning a Rising Star nomination along the way. After the Demons were eliminated by Fremantle, Jones returned to Sandringham and played in their premiership side.

Now a fully established member of the Demon midfield, Jones played 21 games in 2007, earning a second Rising Star nomination and averaging five tackles a game"

Someone on thread mentioned JKH as being a loner and stand apart from the group (can't find the actual post). I live in oakleigh and was walking the dawgs tonight past the Oleigh chargers ground. They were training and I got talking to a trainer about the next gun from the chargers. What he told me I found very interesting. Even though they are two years apart JKH and Dom Tyson went to Trintity and both captained the chargers (did not know that). He said they knew each other both before and after Tyson went to GWS and were friends and JKH was over the moon to come to the demons because "his friend Dom was at the MFC.

My first bit of inside gossip - make it of it what you may.

I also asked about his best position. He said a bit more engine and muscle needed and he is a genuine mid. I said he may not have genuine speed but has all the moves. he nodded and said "of course he has the moves - at his size, if he didn't he would be dead by now"

Who said JKH was a loner at training and didn't have friends in the group? He and Salem walked off the ground in Adelaide with arms around each other. Definitely don't think the kid is short of close mates at the club.

Nice to hear he and Dom are close, too. Can't wait for Hogan to get out there every week, nothing but positives for the young group Roos is assembling for us.

I read it on here. ( must be the truth then...)

Don't want to over state it and make him sound like the next superstar of the game but what JKH has is that obvious self belief that borders on arrogance that most of the good players have. I could see how it could grate on people. But he backs it up with great work ethic and so far some really good results on field. Jack Viney has it as well. Same with Jesse Hogan.

There's nothing wrong with the kids who come in to clubs like a young Col Garland and don't speak for 2 years. But especially with the group of players we had with their confidence shot there is nothing wrong with some confidence.

I just get the notion that JHK just really enjoys going out and playing footy and its just a bit chuffed ( as you would be ) to be doing it for the good ol red and blue.

He loves playing footy....god bless him :)

Apparently his lip towards Murphy on the weekend was along the lines of him being too old and past it. :)

What a little champ.

Really look forward to watching this guy play week in week out.......and a few others , which is a real good thing.

Saw that on 360, was nice that Murph saw the humour in it.

Compare what JKH did to the unnamed GWS [censored] who was berating a Swans player before their derby match, mocking them for missing out on a premiership medal in 2012 due to injury. Think it's become very clear the egos in that team, as led by king of all flogs Tom $cully, have gotten more than a little ahead of themselves.

Bob Murphy is easily my favourite player outside the MFC. He has a lot of the qualities of Robbie Flower. He's also a fantastic journalist up the in the class of Flanagan.

He's written a great article in the Age today about the incident with JKH which is well worth a read. It will be a sad day when Murph hangs up the boots.

Murphy has always had class on and off the field.

I'm not saying he isn't popular. Was only saying he has great confidence. The ability to walk in to Roos' office and ask for a full game and then back it up. That's a great thing.

What a great article. I haven't read many or maybe any of Murphy's articles before but I will now. Well written. Does anyone know if it is all his own work or is it ghosted. Edited by monoccular

It is hard not to like Bob Murphy. And as a footballer, there is hardly a better kick in the comp, he rarely turns it over even under pressure.

Aaron Davey says hello.

But I agree, the AFLPA best first year player is a much better award:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFLPA_Awards#Best_First_Year_Player

Some good winners there; without the bullsh1t of having to pick a player every week and the stupid rules that allow players in the system for a few years to win because of the lack of games.

Maybe it's the quality of the players available in any given year, but the 1993 nominees for the Rising Star were pretty good. Four Brownlow medallists for a start - Buckley, Crawford, Hird and Ricciuto. Plus a few other handy types such as Neitz, Archer, Dustin Fletcher, Misiti, Matthew Richardson and Scott West.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
