Early days i know, but it is all quite clear:

Jack Viney.
Down the line.
No nonsense.
High expectations of himself.
High expectations of his team mates.
HATES, HATES, HATES losing.
Leads be example AND by voice.
13 games and getting better each game:

Love watching this kid go about it. 4-5 more years learning under Jones, and then hand the mantle over.

Indeed. It is a possibility. However, that is about 6 years from now and depends on if he can keep up a decent spread of form. (I know you weren't implying right now SFKA but knowing the 'Land, that is the next logical reply to this post so I thought I would nip that in the bud!)
Edit: I just noticed at the end of the post you said 3-5 so my apologies. I would say 5 would be a minimum. Let the kid become an established player then give him the gong IF he has made it as a quality player.

ahah i know EXACTLY what you mean. Usually these decisions take time, but Jack Viney being the next captain is becoming so bloody obvious everyday.

3-6 years.

Myopic unwavering commitment to the cause. How many of these type of players do the good sides have? How many do we have?

Jonesy and Viney have it, Dawsy seems to have it. Hope a few more join the party.

my god this kid is amazing and has been absolutely brilliant the last 2 weeks

Already one of our top 5 players and could easily come 2nd in the Bluey behind Jones

Nooooooo!

I thought there was some kind of rule about declaring teenagers as 'future captains'?

Jack Trengove,

Brock Mclean

Brad Miller

Scott Thompson

Any other recent ones I've missed?

It would be nice to win two games in a row.

Would it? Can't really remember what it feels like :-((( Could be a bit scary

It should work out quite nicely. Jonesy (and I suppose Grimes) will be slowing up about 4-5 years from now, perfect time for a 24-25 year old Viney to take over.

I said it last week and will say it again. There's not a single kid from that draft I'd swap Viney for now. He's not necassarily the most skilled or most athletic player, but you can't teach what he's got. Gun.

The problem with Trengove is that he WAS a captain, far too young.

Agree with Viney, until then Jones should go it solo.

There was nothing that supported this more than a two minute period in the final quarter yesterday. Grimes gets out-marked when he shouldn't have been, Gold Coast scoring shot and down the other end, Jones finds some way of getting through the traffic and snapping a much needed goal. Grimes shouldn't be in the team, let alone captain. Jones would be in the AA team if it were named now.

exactly, i am suggesting Viney as captain in 4-6. Which would make him 24-26 years old.

Jones and Grimes are doing a great job this year, especially Jones.

Pretty sure you just cursed him to never get the captaincy :P

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
