Port will be challenging GWS and Gold Coast for flags.

Watching Ollie Wines is painful.

Tell ya what, Port look top 4 material to me

the four most impressive teams i have seen so far are Hawthorn, Fremantle, West coast and Port

Hawthorn, Freo, West Coast and Sydney still my tip.

Port have played two very middle of the road sides, possibly even lower than that. There was a sustained period where the Crows had all the momentum and a good side would have put the foot down and made more of an impact on the scoreboard.

Certainties for finals though, you would think. You'd be loving life as a Port fan right now.

Not as painful as watching Toumpas waddle around the park!

I tend to agree, but you can really tell the Swans miss Mumford, but a forward line of Franklin and TIppett and the mids they have they will be tough to beat when they are on.

watching the game tonight and how impressive is Brodie Grundy! i wish we saved pick 13 from the Hogan trade and drafted him! he is going to be the best ruckman in the comp very shortly.

we get it, you don't rate Toumpas.. but he plays for MFC, Wines does not..

Yeah don't remind me, yet another MFC Recruiting "Gem"

When learned people discuss the failings of the MFC at the Draft over the past decade - this Wines/Toumpas pablam doesn't even rate a mention.

if you are willing to write off a bloke after 1 season then you clearly have no idea about the sport, tell ya a couple of blokes who didn't set the world on fire in their first year?

Jobe Watson, Gary Ablett, Marc Murphy, Dane Swan

just because Wines is playing well doesn't mean Toumpas won't become every bit the player the club believes he will be.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

After one season, it's not even hindsight, it's foresight.

IOW, guesswork.

Yeah well some pretty good names in that group, Ok Lets continue to evaluate then. It starts from tomorrow Lets HOPE that he does show something tangible. I await with interest. I'll call it as I see it, tomorrow nearly more than any other game, Jimmy Toumpas and OTHERS need to step up! Howe, Byrnes. Trengove, Frawley, Mc Donald, Spencer needs to take a mark around the ground! Lets hope so Eh?

Last weekend Toumpas had 17 disposals, 3 tackles and a goal playing as a forward, that's a solid game, unfortunately your head is to far up a certain part of your body to notice anything but how well old mate at Port is going.

It's amazing how quickly people jump on young players who aren't getting BOG's right away, alot of reality checks required around demonland i think.

Why do we have to fight with each other when we're supporters for the same club? if you're going to fight go to Bigfooty... hate that site.

On the plus side, we should have a winnable game against the Pies this year. They look ordinary with not many names to come back.

Lol!!!!

Because we are bitter twisted and perverted people. Normal people would not support MFC.

I may be wrong here but I think he mentioned something about being at the 64 GF on that thread, something about sitting behind a picket fence(pardon the pun) I think if you look through that thread you may find your answer

I don't rate Sydney this year. Slow, forward structure not functioning. Tippett coming back will help of course but I'm not seeing the same energy they've had the last two years.

Hawthorn, Fremantle, Essendon have shown great football this year. Reserve judgment on West Coast until we see them play decent teams, and travel.

I'll admit that showing from Sydney tonight says they may have some real problems. Collingwood were awful. They should have buried them twice over. They will surely produce a lot better than what we've seen so far but they aren't looking anything like a contender.

They are missing Mummy...will be interesting to see what Tippett brings when he gets back.

Pendles was probably the only class player on the ground tonight and that was enough to get them over the line.

That would explain the senility! He must have ended up with one of those pickets jammed into his be-hind.

I have never seen anyone on this Forum write crap as consistently as our man PF. His opinions are as obsolete as he is. Talk about a [censored]. Wines is a helluva a player, but sheesh, I don't want to bear his children and burn everyone else at the stake. We have who we have. Trust Roos to sort the wheat from the Chaff. It will take all of the 2, plus 1, years he has signed for to do this job properly.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
