For the love of god Mandee please do not go there. Delete thread now

I see from your number of posts that you are relatively new - assuming you are not an old poster with a new name. As such i can only warn that such a thread is an invitation for the most mind numbing, soul sapping pap you will see for many a year. You have been warned.

I like what you are trying to imply.

Two things:

  1. Maybe it would be relevant to re-visit at the end of this season (If Jack maintains his form from round one i think we would all be very happy supporters).
  2. Compare him against an elite midfielder? its hard to compare his midfield stats against a forward and a ruckman (although relevant for 'who should have gone first debate').

Feeling positive about Jack though :) - would love to see his no of tackles rise too.

Watts is better than Nic Nat.

Please no more Jack Watts vs [insert opposition player here] threads. I beg you!!!

What about Jimmy Toumpas vs Ollie WInes?

Or a 'All about Mitch Clark'?

Maybe a Should we rehire Mark Neeld thread while we're going.

You are drawing a very long bow comparing Watts' one game in 2014 to Nic Nat's injury riddled 2013 and Riewoldt's entire 2005 season.

Sorry to tell but your statistics wouldn't pass any statistician.

Re-make this mid-way though the year (and end of year) against Nic Nat's 2014 season and we'll see what we get.

Then we must also consider you comparing a midfielder to a ruckman and CPP. A better comparison by then may be Brendon Goddard at the same age as that is the role Roos is trying to mould Watts into.

It was clearly the right move to pick Watts ahead of Natanui. But not because he's a better player.

Watts re-signed. Natanui would have gone home (W.A) after 2 years.

The tables you've supplied us with re fairly skewed given that Watts has played only one game this season and it was one of his best ever. As Wunders said, better to do this comparison at the end of the season.

Jack , with his height ,agility , pace and pinpoint kicking would have been a superior wingman in the old one-on-one days out there on their Pat Malone . Those of us ( including former coaches ) who thought that over time he would gain 10kg and become a robust key position player can now see that Roos has worked him out as a free flowing centreman who needs space .

Thank God for Roos at least. He will understand the exact perfect position for all our players the more he sees them play and their style of football.

Watts will end up a better player than Riewoldt - but not have as good a career.

I don't know why Watts is compared to Nic Nat. Jack isn't a ruckman.

Watts moves like a young David Schwartz.

Maybe a Should we rehire Mark Neeld thread while we're going.

Doing very well at Carey.

Watts is better than Nic Nat, NicNat is only behind Lance Franklin for most overrated player, Riewoldt has a better career than Watts, but Watts is still better.

Next thread.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
