Chip Frawley

Hawthorn will pay 800 k if it means they get Chip, so will Freo, don't kid yourselves into thinking noone is going to pay that much, the Suns and Crows would even pay that.

Right now on Carltonland they are probably having a similar conversation about Gibbs the cheap kick merchant. Few stars change clubs, and those two are far from being stars. I like Carlton's approach , offer him what he is worth and leave it at that.

These people who say he's not leaving he has only floated what it would take for him to leave.......didn't people over analyse everything Scully said.

Yes AD

I actually cannot remember Frawley saying much at all.

We are reacting to the media and his agent.

Not exactly the most believable lot.

Absolutely Hawthorn could afford it. Franklin leaving has left them with a massive amount of cap space.

i think him putting a figure on his value is a good thing, he now has to show prospective clubs and MFC that he is worth it. If we do not believe he is worth it we will let him go and accept whatever compensation we can get for him, plus room in our salary cap for the salary we are not paying him. If he improves then we win at least for this year and then can assess how much he wants to stay with the dees. My biggest fear is that no one will want to pay the sort of money he wants, including melbourne. then what?

There can be no denying that he is still one of the best match up in the game for big powerful key forwards. His deficiences like inconsistent disposal and frequent mistakes can be corrected as are more cerebral aspects of his game like form, confidence and enthusiasm. That is his big selling point to any club in a premiership window. Some will pay the money figures bandied about because they know he can shut out a Cloke or a Tippett and other gorillas.

Don't be so foolish as to think them just meeting that price means he will automatically leave.

if he gets offered 800k by a premiership contender i seriously doubt he is going to stay, i can't see us paying more than 800k to hang onto him.

If he did leave, which is a massive possibility, what does that mean in terms of compensation picks?

if he leaves on the 800k being floated we'd get band 1 compensation which is the pick immediately after our first pick, if that's pick 1 we get pick 2

I don't generally like having a go at posters but this guy "Machsy" just abuses people non stop just to be contrarion. The guy has racked up 2350 posts since last June and was the same under his other alises (e25, Jose Mourinho, Artie Bucco etc etc) racking up thousands of posts in a short amount of time then creating new user names. He's an internet troll who has no life other than getting into faux arguments on the net, better off just leaving him be/putting him on ignore and actually discussing footy/the MFC with other people who genuinely want to have a discussion rather than persoanlly attack people for differences of opinion in repetitive posts on every single thread.

The highlight of his many incarnations was the endless vituperation against anyone that suggested Scully would leave us.

Who is going to knock back $800,000 with September bonuses?

Get real.

Who is going to knock back $800,000 with September bonuses?

Get real.

We can happily put WYL on that list then...

This is utter crap.

It's also worth remembering the average salary is up to $300k now.

That's a player like Rohan Bail, Blease or Tapscott.

Average players.

Do you think Frawley is worth 2&1/2 of those types?

I know he is.

I know he isn't at the moment Hes at the same level. Needs to prove that he is worth the premium

Well aware of that...I am also fairly confident that Hawthorn & Fremantle have been circling since last year...Both would pay that figure...

Brian Lake took a pay cut to go to Hawthorn. I cannot see them paying more for Frawley than Hogde Mitchell & Roughhead get.

I would swap Frawley for a #2 pick in the draft like Josh Kelly.

But would we pick a Josh Kelly?

Different folks now but the recent past gives little comfort.

I would rather Frawley at a reasonable cost.

One in the hand ... for me.

Frawley has at least 4 years of AFL left in him. Probably more. Lake will be lucky to see out next season. Hey i would love to see the Hawks get too greedy but i doubt if Chip could turn down such a lucrative offer.

Ditto to the shockers.

Lake's career was in limbo for his last two seasons at the Bulldogs. Injuries and the Magoos was his lot. Whoever gets Frawley will get him at his prime for a key defender

Always ask for more than you think can reasonably get. He's probably on about 400k now, thinks 6-650k might be achievable so ask for 800k.

For those that are not advocating trying to keep him - you can't then turn around and decry FA.

You'd be talking out of both sides of your face.

800k to a premiership contender with money to spare who could seriously use an efficient KP defender makes a lot of sense.

For where this club is at right now, it makes no sense.

If we are going to throw that kind of coin at a player, it needs to be a gamebreaker.

Gamebreaker/Gun midfielder/power forward?

The club must play its best by the rules in front of it. That doesn't mean we have to like the rules.

Gamebreaker/Gun midfielder/power forward?

Anyone capable of impacting a game like Stewie Dew did in the 2008 GF.

Frawley isn't that guy and for 800k, I'd expect somebody who could potentially do that.

I don't really see defenders as game breakers, I would prefer to get a gun midfielder or key forward

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
