Back in 1974 I went with a friend to an Oak Park FC gambling night Bbo.

Now we have to remember this was before Casinos and Pokies in Vic.

He close the Crown and Anchor.

Wiped them out.

Shortly after this feat we decided that discretion might be the better part of valour and left.

Yes I remember doing similar to my cricket club just by betting $50 a time on crowns or anchors and cleaning up one night. Then I realised, with some advice from others, that this was a bit counter productive for the club. So coughed most of it back to keep the peace.

You do understand the scheme don't you ? Give away hard earned is predicated on there being change and that change is winning !

If we win 5 games for the year....The club wouldn't make much money from the scheme (5x30$) and the supporters will still be disappointed with the teams efforts, it's so hard to predict how many games we will win in 2014. For example, just say I have roughly 300$ to give to the club and I expect and pledge 10wins x 30$, if we win 15 games I'm giving 150$ which I can't afford, or if we win 2 games = 60$ then the club is missing out on money potentially. I know we can donate the money in other ways. It's a win win if the club plays well, but if we have another bad year....this fundraiser could be useless. There must be a better way to get people to give money to the club, especially considering our lack of wins in recent years, winning should be regular and something we expect and become used to, that's why people sign up for memberships. We have been starved of wins for years.

What about for donations (minimum say 100$) go in the draw for a signed Jack Trengove guernsey and a pair of his playing boots...?

Perhaps I represent the point of view of a person who has a tighter budget than others, on a Saturday night when we win I don't want to be thinking about my bank balance. I don't like the idea of it.

Work out how much you can afford and halve it, if you want to sign up, that way if we win double the number of games you'll only be up for what you were originally going to contribute.

Well I guess pledge per win is one way to gain some cash, it's more interesting than tin rattling.

I like the idea, whilst I have limited funds and often try to support the club as much as possible, instead of the raffle tickets weekly I prefer this, and it takes a weight off the foundation heros, although I'm sure this year they will be spoken too haha!

I like the idea. I am one of those who on a yearly basis buy a media polo, jacket/jumper a new jumper when there are new sponsors and now my wardrobe is overflowing with years of awesome red and blue gear. This i see as another way to support. I am willing to part with some hard earned per win.

IN NO WAY will i ever wish the MFC to lose. If you cant afford to pledge then simply don’t. When we win i don’t see me paying $10/$20 for it a big issue. I am on a tight budget as most of us are but remember we only play once a week. Most of us get paid for doing some sort of work. I am sure some, as i have done, can put aside a small amount to go to the club to celebrate a good weekend when the red and blue bring home the goodies. I doubt anyone is willing to pledge more then they could afford per week. I hope we go through the season undefeated and i can look back and go that it was a awesome year.

I don’t understand how there is so much backlash over a scheme that was designed to help our club raise extra funds that they didn’t have before. I know that we as supporters have put our hands in our pockets over and over again and we haven’t seen the results on the field. Its simple, if you want to partake in the pledge per win scheme then do.. if you don’t then don’t. Its not a competition as to how much money you give etc it is just another way you can support the club if you can afford to.

I know that i wall have this criticized by those who have time to crawl through my post but honestly i don’t care. i have always supported the MFC and i always will. I put my money into the club through membership and buying supporter gear and i attend as many games as i can. I have seen the good years and i have seen the bad years. I know what it feels like to loose a GF and i know what it feels like to finish dead last. What i want is to know what it feels like to win a GF and if my small pledge this year can somehow help the boys get me there then i know it was worth it.

The 'backlash' has been about 5 posters bemoaning the fact that we are fundraising from Members in yet another way.

That is the sum of it.

Personally, I would love to see a full court press on getting new members but I don't hate this pledge idea. I certainly like it better than the $200 raffle ticket that I have bought in the past few years and outright donations.

I'm all for it, would happily chip in $30 per win or something like that, couldn't offer any more as i am not really rolling in money but i think it's a great idea.

Boosting memberships is the big picture at the moment. I remind Demonlanders that the club runs a membership telemarketing campaign staffed by volunteers.

The club has to explore every avenue they can to raise money, they don't have the luxury of, say Collingwood, who have a list of sponsors waiting for a chance to give them money, or West Coast who have a waiting list of supporters wanting to become members.

Robbie I have taken your advice and signed up. Your formula makes sense but if we win 26 games I ill be happy as Larry but I could be looking for new lodgings when the Misses finds out!

I liked the idea at first.

Now though, whenever I see it promoted I just cringe.

Most recently at 3/4 time last week when the promo popped up on the MCG big screen's..... *facepalm*
