damn, you were going so well until you said that.

We are so far from being a power house at the moment it isn't funny.

Did you watch Gold Coast, GWS and to a lesser extent Port Adelaide over the weekend?

Yikes, now that's some serious crap ya pants powerhouse potential. We are but a fart in the breeze compared to them at the minute.

For the record, i'm not a pessimist, i'm a realist. Life long love for the MFC does that to a man.

Had exactly the same thoughts Song. We'll struggle against both those sides. And .... just compare GWS with three big gun forwards to us with three big gun forwards.

Has anyone come out and said what is exactly wrong with Mitch? It sounds like it might be a depression issue?

Certainly injury frustration wouldn't help. Obviuosly it's considered pretty serious.

I hope things work out for Mitch and if he plays footy again and enjoys it great. If he doesn't, but sorts out whatever his issues are then that's fantatstic.

lol has mitch been accused of taking a machete to someones head?

yeh its pretty much the exact same situation.

He actually was accused when he took the leave. He wasnt granted leave because of it. Jurrah was having problems with his wrist constantly and fitness issues and then took leave to see his family in Darwin.

to actually come out with this...whimsically originated possibly aside shows your absolute ignorance of the situation.

Its not apples and apples....but its fruit none the less

essential apsects are similar...causes very different but effects very similar

well done champ

well i i guess no body knows why mitch was granted leave except mitch and the club, but i would imagine it to be different to jurrahs situation.

interpret how you will, i don't think there situations are the same at all.

the fact that anyone would compare them, except for the fact they were both granted leave is incorrect.

Jurrah's situation and Clark's situation are COMPLETELY different.

Whatever dodgy analogies you want to wheel out it doesn't change that.

the situations are different to the individual concerned....no argument but look to how it then affects the club

we have players in a dark place ( for whatever reason )

players at loggerheads with direction

club having to go to damage control

club facing losing talented players ...again for reasons differing but effect the same

this is the point

club getting bent over...same diff

you can alayse it as deep as you like, the personal level is different

I get the feeling this has nothing to do with his injuries or his photography.

I think he may have some kind of mental illness, such as depression. If this is the case I hope he can work through it and everything works out well...

Best of luck big fella, we're right behind you.

well done...missed it completely

player down... due to circumstances...depression... walks away...club picks up pieces , pays bills get sfa in return

Thread probably would have worked if someone else started it, that's the sad part...

Disagree. You're being completely unrealistic about the ability of anybody to herd cats on an internet forum.

Screw it, I'm gonna buck the trend and say Clark will be back in a demons jumper this year.

Furthermore will win the B&F in 2015!

At least in the far off chance that I am actually right I'll be one of the few on here that wasn't a dick

I'd say they boil down to the same thing, stuie boy.

an over view of both situations including impacts on club etc would look similar. On personal level they are different - as they're 2 different people, with very different circumstances. take a chill pill bro I'm not particularly interested in this battle stuff.

I hope he is able to come back. he showed so much promise as a key forward.

hey clever clogs...its been absolutely highlighted and distinguished as originating from differing positions but the NETT effect to the club...can you discern this idea ...is the same

We get bent over

you take the out...I understand this stance... you have no answer

Oh Lord let it be so!

Me too, it's a big call and I'll probably get crusified for it now!

whether you do or not its a view...and its a very upbeat one....it could happen

other views simply vocalise a concern it wont. Ilke your positiveness though

I prefer to think of it as the "Welcome to reality club " LH

Hogan has not played a game yet who knows how good he will be.

Don't get the cart before the horse just yet with Hogan.

And remember he cannot simple walk to a west side.

We could drive a very hard trade.

TRC, OD?

reality, like some wins, could be good.

At this stage, I don't feel like we've lost much. We've been without him so long now that I know what life is like without him. If he does not return, we will survive. We will recruit wisely and replace him with new talent. Life goes on. The club is bigger than any individual and, whilst I will miss his fearless attack on the footy, we will soon be attracting players who want to be a part of the new powerhouse of AFL. They come and they go in this business.

Good post. But if he doesn't play next year and we still have to pay for him we are screwing ourselves.

I think he may have some kind of mental illness, such as depression.

We're all just speculating, but mine would be that the causes lie in that not unfamiliar Bermuda Triangle of (i) problems at work (LTI), (ii) problems with ex/partner (whatever they may be, word that she's gone back to Perth) and (iii) being a separated father.

The perfect storm perhaps.

well done...missed it completely

Geelong have been the absolute professionals but Daniel Menzel's career is practically over before it started with what 3 or 4 knees. Nathan Vardy nearly had to stop playing with a hip injury and now has done a knee. Hamish McIntosh missed the entire of last year.

Yeah you can draw parallels between Clark and Jurrah. Both struggling with injuries and other happenings and therefore both granted leave. But what I don't get is why you are so negative on the individuals.

Jurrah was always a risk of things going bad. He came from a culture that was pretty much another country to Australia, may as well be another planet. Not to mention half his family was fighting the other half. Jurrah's actions post AFL have told me enough about him and his community that we did all we could.

Clark himself may have been a bit of a risk with homesickness but ultimately pick 12 in a weak draft for an immediate impact key forward and leader. It was a steal. The injury happened. It was terrible luck. Whatever troubles he is facing now are massively contributed to by his initial injury. If he was playing for most of the last two years and ready to line up on the weekend I bet all the other problems in his life could be managed around footy.

Either way I refuse to hold it against the club for making some decisions that took a bit of risk and I refuse to hold it against individuals who have troubles in their life for whatever reason that the feel they need to walk away from their employment. Take a deep breath, consider the individuals and move on. Plenty of other injustices to worry about.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
