Interesting comparison with The Wizard Jeff Farmer who was 174cm 80kg when he played for us. JKH is about the same.

Lack of height never hurt Jeff. I remember one year he should have won mark of the year.

    1998 vs. Richmond...I remember that mark so clearly; probably the best that I've seen live (I live overseas so have missed many of Jeremy Howe's)

    was that not also the year where he ran the length of Waverly, and won goal of the year? I remember thinking he should have been awarded both the mark and goal of the year.

    They gave it to one of the softest players' to have ever played the game in Winston Abraham.

    Abraham's was a good mark coming in from the side, but I thought Farmer's was better.

    Iirc it was the last round of the season, and we thumped Richmond.

    Tingay was in great form that day, streaming down the wing.

    Punt Rd end, Farmer out of seemingly nowhere, launching off of Lyon's back, getting so high it was a simple chest mark.

    The stadium erupted.

    Let's not put expectations on him just because he is training well. At the end of the day, he is a first year player drafted at 40-odd, so we should set our expectations based on that.

    Maybe he was 'drafted at 40-odd' but he was also our 'second pick in the AFL Draft' after our astute trading to bolster the midfield. i am optimistic that when the season proper commences it will reveal that our recruiting team this year have done a good job and made some astute moves, JKH being a prime example and I am confident he will surprise many.

    I'm really impressed with this kid so far. Even though Roos has said that the new draftees will be eased into AFL football next season, I'd put him as a smokey for round 1.

    Sorry but I beg to differ. Under the AFL Rising Star rules you have to have played 10 or fewer senior games before the start of the season in question so that means Dean Kent (15 games in 2013), Jimmy Toumpas (14) and Jack Viney (13) are all out of contention.

    To be eligible for nomination, a player must be under 21 on 1 January of that year and have played 10 or fewer senior games before the start of the season.

    Michie turned 21 in 2013 and is therefore not eligible.

    Four rising star nominations will suffice for 2014 however lovely to see jkh take out the ultimate prize. Loved his confidence to be named as a Round One starter in the latest interview.

      When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

      The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
      Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
