Daniel Cross photo announcing signing

Did anyone else notice the distinct lack on sponsorship on that shirt.

I may be the only one, but I am getting over us having to announce players ever couple of years without a sponsor. A few years ago we even had our team photo without a sponsor on it.

It is a scathing indictment on this football club as a business that we are continually looking for sponsors.

Just my opinion, and I know we are getting a new one but a supposedly professional organisation should be able to hold a major sponsor (even one) for more than a couple of years.

No surprises in that Fruit. We have been shite - so who would want to spend advertising/marketing money on us? Let's look forward - if Roos can't turn things around then each of us need to find a new team or code. In Roos and a new admin we hope.

PS. Lordweaver, we may also need a prayer.

Thank you Lord for your generous beneficence. I shall now mortify my flesh (thoroughly) and then sleep the sleep of innocence.

Bring back Drake.

That was the only time I remember us being good.

I still reckon we get CougarLIfe.

We as supporters, sometimes don't realise that the players are as much in the dark as we are. They probably read the same forums as we do and it must be disheartening to read some of the comments passed about them by the supporters of their own and other clubs.

Cross, who joined Melbourne as a delisted free agent, said it had been an anxious couple of months, after he knew his time was up at the Bulldogs towards the end of the 2013 season.

“Most guys who have gone through the same thing as me will tell you that it’s an extremely stressful time,” he said.

“Guys’ names are thrown around and bandied around. Where are they going to end up? You’re sitting there not knowing what’s going to happen. You check up on any Twitter feed or website [to see] if your name comes up and [there is] interest from other clubs.

“I was really keen to continue my career on at the highest level. I’m so glad and rapt that Melbourne’s allowed me to do that. The last couple of months have been something new to me and I hadn’t been through that situation before and I don’t recommend it, that’s for sure.”

This isn't about Cross signing. I for one am glad that he signed. I am just pointing out the fact that it is almost embarrassing that we continually have to find sponsors every few years

Course it is but we are an embarrassment so you can understand why a sponsor doesn't want to be associated with us.

People like to associate themselves with winners and we don't fit that category at present.

We aren't an embarassment , we're an opportunity.

Thank you Lord for your generous beneficence. I shall now mortify my flesh (thoroughly) and then sleep the sleep of innocence.

You are a mortal like the rest of us BBO but I feel it would be remiss of me if I were not to remind you of Romans 8:8Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Tingles would you thump money into this organization between 2007-13?

I did. And guess what??

Its all gone....Conolly and Schwab are cashed up though.

We aren't an embarassment , we're an opportunity.

One door closes, another opens.

A stitch in time saves nine.

A bird in the hand...

You get my drift.

It's a direct result of being a perennial loser.

If we fix that, sponsorship will be much easier.

Weren't the old sponsors still engaged up until 31st October.

Maybe just Maybe he was caught between an old and a new sponsor.

We aren't an embarassment , we're an opportunity.

Are you sure about that BB?

OK but what do we do with him now?

We're both.

I'll back PJ in to prioritise the latter over the former, but it won't be an easy sell.

Sponsors look for one thing, the number of members on the database that they have access to, because we are up and down and mostly down in the last few years, the fairweather supporters have been on and off the database, not a very attractive proposition to sponsors....the fact the numbers are good this year might be enough to attract, but we are still a hard sell...anyway as somebody said all contracts expire 31st October

In truth we definitely are an embarrassment and also an opportunity. Paul Roos signing has brought a significant interest into the Melbourne Football Club now. We should be able to attract some sponsors on top of that. I understand that we have been a joke for the better part of 6 years, however I think it is a perfect opportunity to get on board now and experience the new era of a club that for once seems to be in good shape off the field. On the field is another matter entirely but the business PJ as conducted off the field should be able to attract decent sponsors.... or even A sponsor so that for once we are not introducing recruits with a blank shirt.

I don't really care about the sponsors. If I had the money I'd offer to sponsor the club to have nothing but the emblem on our jumpers. I think it's cheap and tacky to have a company logo splashed across your uniform and it truly saddens me that it has become a necessity in modern football.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
