Young Dee 1,303 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Another Swan! Welcome Frosty! http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-10-25/mcpherson-completes-coaching-staff MELBOURNE has appointed former Sydney Swans defender/midfielder Daniel McPherson as its new forward line coach. “Daniel has previously worked at the Sydney Swans under Paul Roos as a development coach and coached the Swans reserves. He’s also worked with the New South Wales under 18s.” "In 2007, McPherson became a runner for Roos at the Swans in a part-time position. In 2008, he joined the Swans full time, working as a development coach with Brett Allison, who also recently joined the Demons." Meanwhile, Melbourne has appointed former backline development coach and Bulldog player Andrew Nichol to the position of player development manager What do people think?
Canberra Demon 159 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 well hopefully with all this experience from NSW we might be able to find some talent overlooked by most clubs.
The Chazz 4,077 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Will he still host Dancing With The Stars?
Young Dee 1,303 Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 "Frosty" - that would have been a good nickname for Neeld.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 birds of a feather Obviously a Roos recommendation, interesting CV Club's happy, I'm happy.
DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Only bit I didn't like. The midfielder/defender will coach the forward line. But oh well. Paul Roos - Senior Coach George Stone - Midfield/Strategy Jade Rawlings - Backline Daniel McPherson - Forwards Andrew Nichol - Development Manager Brad Miller - Development coach Ben Mathews and Brett Allison fit in there somewhere. Roos has been known to have a stoppages coach so it wouldn't surprise me if that role went to Mathews. Not sure where Allison will fit in.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Where does Brett Allison fit in? - Paul Roos - Senior Coach - Todd Viney - Manager Player Personnel - Josh Mahoney - Manager Football Operations - Mallory Smith - Football Administration Manager - Andrew Nichol - Player Development Manager - George Stone - Midfield and Strategy Coach - Ben Mathews - Midfield Coach - Jade Rawlings - Backline Coach - Daniel McPherson - Forward line Coach - Brett Allison - Head of Development - Brad Miller - Development Coach
Bedraggled Dee 336 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 - Paul Roos - Senior Coach - Todd Viney - Manager Player Personnel - Josh Mahoney - Manager Football Operations - Mallory Smith - Football Administration Manager - Andrew Nichol - Player Development Manager - George Stone - Midfield and Strategy Coach - Ben Mathews - Midfield Coach - Jade Rawlings - Backline Coach - Daniel McPherson - Forward line Coach - Brett Allison - Head of Development - Brad Miller - Development Coach Not gettng Dew has potential to be a good thing. There are sme pretty talented people in that list all looking to get a leg up as Roos successor. I like a bit of helthy competition.
DemonOX 8,857 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Never heard of him. We certainly do have a lot of love for ex swans. In Roos we trust
P-man 13,367 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 A former defender/midfielder as forward line coach eh? It really is becoming Swans 2.0. But hey, if it brings success who cares.
What 18,810 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Great news Means we dont have the successor in place and its all Roos in 2014 baby!!!! Lets hope we get some serious wins and show massive improvement and he gets the hunger back to be the long term coach GO DEMONS and welcome aboard Mr. McPherson
Machsy 2,858 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Confused, because I'm sure in a previous AFL website article that Allison was named a forward line coach, and Matthews as midfield coach. From now on I trust only MFC articles. AFL articles are no better than The Age or HS for getting the details right.
Machsy 2,858 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 "Frosty" - that would have been a good nickname for Neeld. 2 x Frosty on the list now more than makes up for it. Good to see Nichol get another gig too. He was held in high regard previously.
TRIGON 4,819 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Welcome aboard Daniel, You can't go wrong when you recruit from Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong! (do their supporters suffer from hypoxia?)
hardtack 11,104 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 A former defender/midfielder as forward line coach eh? It really is becoming Swans 2.0. But hey, if it brings success who cares. Well, they are the people Roos is familiar with when it comes to effective people... and what better than having the coaching staff comprising a few from possibly one of the most consistently well performed clubs of the past few years.
dazzledavey36 56,278 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Andrew Nichol is someone the highly talk about very highly. Glad he is still on board.
bing181 9,472 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Can anyone explain the difference between: - Andrew Nichol - Player Development Manager and - Brett Allison - Head of Development Interesting aside in all this, the three assistants to the assistants from the last two years have now found new positions: Nichol with us (promotion?) Satterley to De La Salle as head coach, and Greaves has been announced as Development coach at Port Adelaide, responsible for ruck coaching. On the other hand, Leigh Brown and Royal still without new homes.

DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 interesting that satterley has gone to a winning culture? promotion maybe? Nope remember we got him from being a senior VFL coach and now he's coaching Ammo's. That's a backwards step in my mind. The idea for a coach to come in to the AFL system is to then stay in it and move up. At the same time De La is still a pretty decent gig so we didn't completely destroy his career!

DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Can anyone explain the difference between: - Andrew Nichol - Player Development Manager and - Brett Allison - Head of Development Who would really know but Allison was development coach at Sydney then an assistant at North and therefore you would think he is the senior man and gets the responsibility for actually working with Roos and the line coaches to work out what content needs to be taught in the develop. So he's in charge of the particular skills and drills and things. Nichol on the other hand comes from a school teaching background as well as working for us the last 2 years so I would've thought the manager part in his title would show that he will be more responsible for plotting the development and reviews and so on. Miller is the 3rd member of the team so nice spread of experience. Either way it's nice to keep another member of the old coaching staff in this development role so he can pass over to Roos where the players are at. For example he can tell Roos that Strauss is a good kick but they need to work on his tackling and close defensive skills as well as making sure he finds more ball. And so on. Completely wiping the slate and starting again really sets you back I think.
bing181 9,472 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 They have different names and titles. Other than that, no. That might have been the case in the past, but given PJ's emphasis on clearly defined roles and chains of responsibility, I wonder if that's actually the case here.
dees189227 12,509 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Hey Brian Royal has gone. Im rapt. It time for fresh face and voices. Its roos I trust him
Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Can anyone explain the difference between: - Andrew Nichol - Player Development Manager and - Brett Allison - Head of Development From the titles, Allison heads up the development function. Andrew Nicnol manages player development under Allison's umbrella of responsibility.
