Had a good first half of the year but really tired out physically towards the end of the year which is not surprising considering he had no pre season at all and came back from a knee reconstruction which wiped out his year last year. So for a 208cm ruckman to play 13 games this year and kick 7 goals is a impressive effort.

Will only get better with a huge pre season and guidance under Paul Roos so expect a big year next year for Big Maxy. Signed a two year deal which will see him out till 2015.

Gawn is quite mobile for a ruckman and has the ability to become our number 1 ruckman in years to come but, needs to build his tank up over the next couple of years to compete with the best. Though he did show he could match it with the best with impressive sole performance effort against Will Minson in round 14 for 3 qtrs, but blew out of gas in the last qtr. This will also come with experience as he will continue to play more games in 2014 and with maybe a Darren Jolly coming on board you could not look to no better then him as a mentor.

Gawn has massive potential and has shown the glimpse why he could be a force. He is quite mobile, can take a contested mark, kicks goals when resting up forward, surprisingly shows aggression and doesn't mind a scruff.

Very happy with how Gawny is going. Big blokes, particularly ruckmen, take time to develop. Given his two knee reconstructions, he is still a couple of years from his peak.

Had a very good year and dominated VFL whenever he was at that level.

Just needs more work into the body to translate to consistent AFL performance.

With Gawn and Spencer so far as our rucks for the future Roos will have to adapt and change to a 1 primary, 1 back up system I believe rather than the sharing role he preferred with Ball/Jolly, Mumford/Pyke at Sydney. Big Maxy and Spencer just don't get the job done up forward with the lack of mobility. But luckily we have Fitzpatrick and Clark both who can perform that second ruck role very well.

10kg of muscle should see him maintain his mobility but be a tough fella to move off the line.

if he can maintain fitness and we can build a midfield around him, we'll be right.

Stop overrating him.

He's good at ground level for a behemoth, but still has a heap of work to do there. He's not as good as Sandilands is at ground level.

He uses the ball well by hand. His foot skills are ok for what you expect from a guy of 208cm but he needs to work on his goal kicking a lot. His marking is promising but not outstanding.

He has to make sure that his current European holiday that he's on doesn't take away from him making big fitness and strength gains before next year. And he needs to stay healthy.

He could be the next Sandilands or he could be the next Robbie Warnock.

Look at the development of Big Will, these blokes take time. If he keeps his body right I have little doubt that Big Maxy will be the elite of the elite!

Beg to differ. Brody Grundy will be the best in the comp in 3 yrs. Clarke (Freo) and Zac Smith will be thereabouts. If Gawn's knees hold up, he'll be in the top 5.
