Oh, but Cuz only overtook sleeping pils at Tigerland, didn't you know ADC? Lol! ;);)

Yeah, he was trying to do the right thing. Desperately seeking to escape the non stop 72 hour party lifestyle. He took the sleeping pills so that he could be in bed by 10pm and get a good nights sleep after the games. Wasn't used to taking one pill and not a dozen at a time and camomile tea wasn't working for him.

So you cannot at least add to your last sentence 'except when it involves Richmond'.

You don't have to join the village antics, but don't go to the opposite extreme and say the sky is red just because all the villagers say it is blue just to show your independence of mind.

You imply there is no evidence that there were bad things involving Richmond which she had ignored? Funny how she herself suddenly found and published things about Martin that others had published before and she had ignored. In any case, there was enough scuttlebutt about Martin that any serious unbiased investigative journalist would have looked into. I doubt she had investigated and found 'all clear' so didn't publish (though rebutting those who had would make sense in that case). Instead in her recent article she suddenly discovers all the bad things about Martin. Smacks of Richmond protectionism to me in the past, and possibly she is still acting in Richmond's interests if one believes the village conspiracy theorists.

Sure CW is more of a journalist than most of her colleagues. Sadly, it doesn't take much to do so.

she's a very Tribal journo. & most of our media are being massaged to be this way these days. political correctness in favour of he who butters your daily bread.

Had a brief chat to Chris Newman at the Ovens and Murray grand final.

Lets just he and many Richmond players aren't fond with him and are happy for him to leave. This whole thing about being welcomed back at the club is being blown out by the media.

Saw Daniel Cross there presenting the cup but didnt get the chance to chat.

dont get what?

Martin can play football... That's all that matters to me... I dont care what he does outside the matches....

Richmond have set their media dogs on him and its looking like they might have won here....

BTW.... When are going to give my warning point back:/

The only problem is if it means he can no longer play matches. He's not much use to us then.

Well, if they want to get rid of him, PSD2 is waiting with a front loaded contract.

.... way back there was a guy called Ian Stewart, who was elite mid cream, & genius, but very shaky. after some years he was swapped with tough nut Billy Barrot.

its a close comparison. but stewart was in a different era with differing media & a Club with a tough coach, footy manager, & playing list.

There was an unwritten pact between the media and VFL then. No outrage by a star player would have been reported. All issues would have been handled in house. Martin, Fevola, Cousins etc would not have faced public scrutiny for their behaviour as they do today. There would be a few legends from the old days that would have truncated careers if they played today due to their behaviour.

That is very true, some legends of the game had very dubious lives off the ground.

Did anyone see the late night doco of the 89 GF last week? Forgot what night it was on, had camera footage of the hawks boys strutting around the Northern Stand nude footage of Dermie's bare backside.

It's amazing how things have changed removing the old "boys will be boys" attitude.

I know of one particular legend who driving when drunk lost control and ran over a 5 year old boy playing on the footpath in the early 60's. The boy died recently after lingering in an institution for over 50 years. He ended up a profoundly retarded quadriplegic with half his head missing . The issue was covered up and no meaningful action was taken by the authorities, VFL or his club. The player was a club captain, B&F winner and member of their team of the century. I only know this because I was told the story by the boys mother whom I know well.

How can this be possible?

If this is true, and you're annoyed that it's been covered up, why don't you name the player.

Because it is not in the public domain. I did mention this a few years ago also. If I did name names they will have to be deleted on an internet forum. The family is still very hurt about all this. They were new poor migrants who could not speak English and had no way to seek answers or justice. They were hoodwinked and misled by powerful forces who wanted to bury the issue. I can assure you it was not someone from our club. Edited by america de cali

"boys will be boys", is ok as far as I'm concerned but what has been covered up in the past was not that, it was much, much worse.

And this was still happening until only recently like the Milne rape issue and allegations of police interference to sabotage the case. IMO for Martin to cop so much heat in these more open times, there must be a lot worse about him out there than what is generally known.

Jesus h christ that is disgusting ADC, if true. How could they have gotten away with that, in era?

Celebrities can get away with murder. Matthew Broderick, Brandy and Ted Kennedy to name a small sample have all killed people, but no action has been taken against them. You're right. It's disgusting. The same can be said with sexual assault committed by sporting stars. They receive different treatment to the average person.

The Broderick one was ridiculous. Killed two people while driving and ended up paying a small fine.

really with us now not getting a priority pick and us needed midfielders why wouldnt we just put a offer on the table to him as long as we get him for free in the pre season draft ?

I want to unread that. I just picture that being my 5 year old son. I feel sick.

we need to capture a player of Dusty's skill for nothing, in order to start making ground on the league leaders.

So a deal with Dusty that sees him come to us via the PSD seems a risk we need to take.

Sick of trying to climb the ladder against so make better positioned (resourced, supported, strategically important) clubs.

We need to break something and take risks to move up.

Dustin just polled the same amount of votes in the brownlow, as our whole team!! I'd say that he'd be pretty usefull.... Edited by tatu

Was the driver charged and prosecuted for being "drunk", or is that hearsay ?
