I think Roos will look at McKenzie and wish that the bulk of the list had the intangibles of this bloke. He will still be doing jobs for this club for a few years to come. I agree with DA that his 'job' shouldn't always be as a tagger.

I wouldn't go to the Blues for opportunity as a pure mid.

They are already stocked in that regard and have just injected Dale Thomas with no loss.

And anyone that thinks St Kilda is a more attractive destination than MFC has rocks in their head.

The club was forced to deny the coach was due to be sacked after a "joke" at a function last week!

Things are not ok in their footy dept, and they are on the way down still.

The only attractive thing about them is opportunity if you're a KPP.

They have opportunities in the middle, but Hayes & Montagna are on their last legs, and beyond Jack Steven and David Armitage they have very little.

We are set for KPP.

We have many opportunities in the midfield, but you'll still get to play with super young talent like Viney & Toumpas, and decent vets Jones & Trengove.

It's only the mess of a football dept that I see being a detractor, and with Roos now in charge, it shouldn't be an issue.

Good post, M, but there is still going to be that stigma amongst opposition players, until we get our act together on-field. Off-field is sorting itself out slowly (seemingly), but unfortunately we can't really bemoan opposition players for turning us down. I would hope that during the next off season, we will be slightly better positioned, having put in a more competitive season with a few wins.

A thing about all this is that we have our opinions of the MFC but from within , in a fashion as we have an understanding of things Melbourne .

Everyone else sees us vrry differently .

I'll always argue a point if I can be bothered, but I have no interest whether I'm "rated" or otherwise. Please yourself whether you think I'm being candid.

It is a concern, but 4 things interest me.

1. Fremantle are keen to retain him

2. Freo supporters bar none really rate him

3. After virtually no preseason he won Peel Thunder's B&F averaging 26 disposals and regularly being tagged.

4. He's only 21.

Utter hack is a tad harsh.

I think McKenzie is a victim of injuries and utterly poor coaching.

Guy can't kick, so he must be a tagger... Please... The one glaring good skill he had early on was his handball in close, people spoke about Scully and Trengove's hands in close, McKenzie was better. Very creative and accurate at both AFL and VFL level early in his career.

Then got injuries and made into a pure tagger.

He should've been developed as a Cross type, not a Clint Jones.

I'm not a fan of McKenzie either. He's a very, very limited footballer, but I'd agree he seems to have lost a lot of confidence since Bailey left. Under Neeld, it seems he wasn't nurtured, surprise, surprise. I couldn't see him surpassing C grade, but I will be interested to see how Roos shapes him.

However, he may just have a place in the current team as a tagger. He has to hurt the opposition more though. Use that handball and kick the bloody thing too.

It's to no great use shutting down Pendlebury and losing by 70pts, but in a tight game it's of paramount importance. Personally I rate McKenzie as a very good role player. He's of no great value with the ball in open space, but otherwise he does his job - he needs to be more crisp with his ball use.

McKenzie seemed to find more space inside when he first started, & was handy with the ball, dishing off a handball to a teammate on the move.

todays footy he doesn't seem to find space with the ball. I think maybe there is more players close in around the ball than say 4 yrs back.

not sure where he's at, or if he'll recover his old form.

but he does have tenacity & hunger.

I don't care that his handballs are sometimes wide of the mark

I do care that his hands are rubbish. Frequent fumbler

And I understand that he gives his all, just like Godders did

But in the positions they play, you need to be a one grab player. The kitchen's too hot to get a second chance at the ball.

Surely we will hear news of Michie today or in the very near future? It has been a while now. Hoping we land him, would only be a small coup but a coup none the less.

I'm sorry but comparing him to Pederson is absurd. Viv is a 21 year old midfield/half forward who has been deprived of AFL matches because of injury. This year was the only year he got a decent pre-season in and performed consistently well at WAFL level to win the B&F for his side. I'm sure there are a few reasons he wasn't gifted games in Freo's side but it's obvious from an outsiders point of view that they have a strong performing midfield which would be hard to crack into for a guy who's probably been told he needs a solid block of games in the seconds. The best clubs in the league with the strongest development programs never gift their young players games. They ask them to play specific roles in the two's and get them playing consistent, team first footy.

Pederson is a 25-26 year old position-less spud who the Roos clearly didn't want to hang on to and Neeld and co stupidly signed for three years. They are completely different players who weren't getting games for completely different reasons and they are 4-5 years difference in age.

Maybe a tad harsh, however only in hindsight. This time last year we were saying that Pederson was potentially a good KPP who was playing in the VFL because he was being kept out of the Roos side that had Petrie & Co holding down all the spots.

I think for someone like Michie - first and foremost he wants to forge a successful AFL career for himself - and the MFC can virtually guarantee him 22 games a year in the midfield. Not sure Carlton can do the same. For a guy that has played 1 game in 3 seasons I reckon job security is priority #1. Then again I may just be rationalizing!

We have a crapload more money in our cap than Carlton.

Carlton have to pay Judd, Daisy, Kruzer, Murphy, Gibbs etc

We have Clark and Dawes, and have just freed up heaps of cash with Davey & Sylvia gone (probably are two highest paid players outside of Clark & Dawes).

Our ability to pay up decent money is not the issue. Our ability to be a good team is.

Mckenzie is too one dimensional. He can't kick.......all he can do is tag. We can't afford to have too many of his type in the side Nicholson's another, Bail and if we recruit Cross I will be cross.

I agree entirely. Carlton have cap probs currently . They need to jettison a few before going shopping too much more.

well, it kindof happened already with savage so your feeling is probably not that out there unfortunately...

Carlton is linked to just about everyone, they still trying to get shaw and chappy and ... and ... and... they cannot afford everyone. Also as pointed out Mich needs to decide if he wants to be satisfied with hoping he can get a game with Carlton to actually playing every week with Melbourne. His future earning capacity will be based on his next couple of years performance and that will not increase too significantly if he is still playing in the blues vfl side because old man juddy and co keep him out.
