Changes v GWS

Featured Replies

I am on record as I cannot stand Dunn and the sooner he is out of the side the better. However he clearly beat Thomas, did not shirk a contest today and to my recollection only cost us one goal with an error today.

Craig has gone on record as stating the rest of the year is about team and individual development. There is no benefit to playing Davey. I hope today was his last in the MFC jumper.

Which 'record'? The back page of the Herald-Sun, Inside Football? The Insiders?

Watch the VFL highlights and read the player review and tell me Taggert doesn't deserve a run.

Taggert doesn't deserve a game, one good game doesn't mean you should be selected, the guy was dropped to the development league a couple of weeks back because he couldn't get near the footy. Since returning his form is better and he is cementing his spot in the Casey 1sts. If he can string a couple of good games together then he will be considered.

I'm amazed by the Taggert love, I know we are desperate for Midfield talent, he doesn't play in the midfield at Casey, last week even in the comments played Half Forward with some time in the middle.

Davey had a stinker on Saturday, but he has been on of our better players this year, doesn't say much for most of our players.

Not quite true, his last 2 games have been good in the VFL, his game in the development squad was connected to him not being well after having his wisdom teeth removed.

He has played a lot at half forward which I think is a mistake but it was when moved into the middle that he had a big impact on the game last week. Have a look at the highlights on the MFC website and you will get an idea why some us want to see him in the senior side.

If he doesn't get a game this week then he must at least be played in the midfield from here on, we need to develop him further.

Now with Frawley out, it's the perfect opportunity for Davis to have a go. His form at Casey more than warrants it and he can't do worse than Pedersen.

In: davis, Garland, Strauss, Terlich

Out: PEDERSEN, Frawley, and a couple of others.

You have to earn respect Davey hasnt earned mine OK

"OK" .. question or a statement.? Why would he want to earn yours.. He has served this club well, while not at his best now..He deserves respect... I don't care if he hasn't earned yours....Not the reason I posted what I did... OK ?.... He doesn't select himself does he ?? The selectors do.. if you think he shouldn't be there don't blame him... Just saying...

Dom Barry worth a run yet? surely he and taggart would worth a look before the season is out

Yes and I suspect one of them should play this week and the other should come in to help fire us up to attend our final home game - Round 21.

There's plenty of players who should come in this week given the VFL side is coming off good win at Victoria Park where we used to win once every decade.

The only thing is deciding who gets the chop as a case can be made for all bar about six players to be sent back to VFL.

I seem to be only one who wants Spencer in but he shocked me against St Kilda and I want to know if he can repeat that sort of form. I don't get why you punish a bloke that had a great game and did a physical act and gets suspended. He's spent two more weeks out because Fitzy and Gawn have shown a bit, but at the same time, despite their glimpses, we have been thrashed in ruck in every game they have been a tandem.

So for me this week it's:

In: Garland, Spencer, Terlich, Strauss, Barry

Out: Frawley (inj), Gawn, Clisby, Kent, Davey

I'd also love to see Magner get another go but can't see Craigy making too many changes.

Tynan Davis Garland Strauss

For

Davey Kent Frawley Dunn

Might be worth giving Nev Jetta a last ditch attempt a contract too.

Taggert needs a taste at AFL level. He may not deserve his place due to inconsistency at VFL level, but the season is shot and playing against a team mostly of his age (GWS) is a nice transition IMO.

Fitzy maybe hampered by a knee injury. If the club is lkg to raise his trade value, drop him due to injury. He has proven some value already (what value is debatable) Taggert to take his place. If his knee is ok leave him in the seniors

Strauss has shown some consistency at VFL recently and should be given games. Before he broke his leg he showed some talent at AFL level. It didn't happen with one game, it occurred after playing a few games in succession. Play him for the next 5 rounds.

Barry needs a look at AFL at some stage in the next 5 rounds. Not sure if this week is his time tho. He has shown some impressive games recently with Casey.

Players like Brynes, Pederson can give way. We know what they offer.

Kent has had his time at AFL and a shot back at Casey getting more possessions may give him more confidence.

Craig has resisted major changes since being head coach. Whilst its a great strategy as Neeld made at least 4 changes a week. It's time for Craig to incorporate experience to the young ones. It bodes well for pre season traing if they know the pace of AFL when training for 2014. 2013 is already a train wreck.

As rjay said, the Development League game was due to his wisdom teeth being removed and I didn't say anything about him playing in the midfield in the AFL. He should replace Kent at high half-forward. He would be a good choice for the sub vest, in my opinion.

Agree with Deespicable (above). Jake Spencer played a brilliant game against StK, did 3 weeks penance for a clumsy bump, has excelled at Casey - kicked 2 goals against Collingwood, yet gets overlooked in favour of Gawn/Fitz/ Jamar and others. He is a ruckman who needs to have the opportunity to prove himself. Many young players get a shellacking on this forum. They need confidence to play well and constantly knocking them and not giving them a run in the firsts (well at this stage we should be giving them all a try) will not get the best out of them. Give a few Casey players a try and pick the best to stay in the team.

So you are complaining a young ruckman who needs an opportunity to prove himself is not getting a game because he's stuck behind an even younger ruckman who also needs than opportunity (in Gawn) and a young ruck/forward who has done very well in Fitzpatrick.

I believe Spencer is contracted for next year. He'll get his chance if he's good enough ahead of Gawn at some stage but right now Gawn has a decent month or so of footy under his belt and Spencer has one good VFL game.

Playing Fitzpatrick, Spencer and Gawn would mean we lose mobility up forward. It can be done but it would mean we could have Dawes as well but probably not Watts.

So we'd have to play Watts in the backline again. Which I'd actually be a fan off. I'd put him on Cameron, get us accused of tanking but teach Jack a lesson about a quick young forward who also plays with aggression and courage and work rate.

Actually that's not a bad idea. Watts in the backline again along with Garland and McDonald, no need for Davis or Pedersen.

If fit I think there are two automatic inclusions this week in Garland and Terlich.

They would automatically come in for Frawley (inj) and possibly Tapscott/Clisby.

I think Strauss deserves another shot because he has had about 4 games in a row where he has been one of our best. Barry has also shown something the last few weeks and could deserve a run. He's shown it over more weeks than Taggert, so I'd go with him before Taggert.

So I reckon we go with:

Ins: Garland, Terlich, Strauss, Barry (as sub)

Outs: Frawley (inj), Clisby (to allow Strauss to have another crack), Kent (I think it would be good for Kent to go back to Casey to get some decent game time), Tapscott

I'm glad Spencer has another opportunity. With Dawes out Gawn can spend more time forward while Spencer rucks. Spencer is also handy around the ground and a surprising tackler. Garland is an important in this week.

Dawes' injury is unfortunate but if Jack Watts is ever going to put in an effort where he shows some heart playing on either Phil Davis, Tim Mohr or Josh Bruce then this has got to be the week to do it at CHF. It also lets us rotate the two big rucks through the goal square and FF. Of course Spencer at FF can be hard to watch but let's see how it goes.

Besides from that Garland for Frawley is obvious and Terlich back in as well. Shame they still refuse to give Strauss a chance though. Or Taggert for that matter. I mean the game isn't going to be won or loss on the difference between Taggert and Dean Kent.

Oh lord, the day has come. Fitz, Gawn and Spencil all in the same team

I'm sure it will be a moment of elegance and grace!!!

This is like something out of Sherwood forest.

Do you expect BBO to just start pulling rhymes out his derriere.

Mind you ,I have a good couplet for Friar Tuck.

I'll consult the lads. But if I can't come up with anything, I'm sure Lordweaver will have an appropriate hymn or psalm (or dirge).

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
