I'm actually thinking entirely out of the AFL coaching world.

There's a massive difference btw teaching the NSW juniors and overseas imports how to kick, mark, and handball and working with experienced players and implementing tactics etc.

I think you are right. Ayres has been in the VFL and thought of as out of touch, if Roos wants to get back into coaching it will be in the next couple of years or not at all.

I want someone who is available to invest of themselves to get this team a lot further along the road than we might get in say 2 years

Yep,I want Roos but not the cash grabbing version. I want a 5-8 year coach.

I thought Neeld was ok as an untried option could have been anything but as I have stated he failed.

I did like the structure of Craig Neeld as it did provide some insurance for the above.

I would like to retain Craig but he does carry some of the Neeld baggage and can he get on with Roos or Williams .

Not sure about Roos liked him but would need to know his plan and see his passion increased

I would prefer Williams of the others as he may be a bit eccentric but I think that can be good if managed and supported by those around him. He obviously knows how to get the final result.

I would also like to get Ling and offer him the midfeild role with a view to taking over when the Craig Williams session is over 3-5 years

I would make Williams appointment insistent on finals progress to success in 5 years and if not achieved Craig Ling would takeover

if Williams successful he takes Craigs role and Ling takes Coach

this provides for succession and also fulfillment as coach and mentor roles. Also allows option for success to be included for coaching role with option to fallback (mentor) if coach not successful

I do not really have enough information to make a definitive statement but hope the people making the decision have a clear strategy and can communicate that when announcing any decision. I think more transparency and particularly performance expectations need to be outlined so that there are no surprises. I would expect players to have similar success conditions on their contracts.

He has said no at the moment. My take on this is he doesn't want to coach the dees however if a better prospect comes such as west coke he will then want to coach.

Or he is waiting to see that the structures and foundations which can support success, are in place at the MFC, before he considers his position further. As has been said by other posters, nothing can possibly be finalised until at least October

some of us just want the coach to be fair dinkum and not be using us as a whistle stop on a cash collection tour.

Essentially id rather Choco or Rocket on 3-5 than Roos on 2+

Arent Ken Hinkley, Damien Hardwick and Bluey McKenna more the types we want - not them specifically but types like that? Guys who can work with developing lists more comparable with ours? We dont have mega bucks and also they are of an age the players might be able to better relate to? I jusy worry that Eade, Williams, Malthouse, Sheedy are from different eras. Roos is a bit older at 50 than say Hardwick (40) but Eade at 55 and Williams at 54 (and fully aware of age discrimination in the selection process) but in terms of who I would hope for...so I dont miss the loss of Roos for this reason as well. Plus I dont like his hair colour he obviosuly needs to be in touch with James Hird's colourist (allegedly).

I think it would be a massive mistake to sign up any coach for 5 years. A lot can happen in that time and it can be a hefty payout if it doesn't work.

It doesn't make good business sense when you have competition for the spot.

This is entirely the nature of a coach we need to come onboard. Roos tweaked an already happening club, albeitly got them the next level up but some might say all thehard was was already done ( by Rocket ) . Choco can probably take full credit for Ports success.

I would love Paul Roos at the Dees. But his heart's got to be in it. I believe in a lot of cases your first reaction is a good reflection of how you really feel. We don't want a Malcolm Blight scenario here. His era at St. Kilda stuffed his rep. nine ways from Sunday (though the Saints got back on the feet in the next couple of years). Let's not waste each other's time.

I don't believe any coaching candidate is worthy of 5 years especially on a premium salary. if so there should be some performace targets that must be met for the first three years with the right to terminate if they are not achieved. Any potential coach confident of real success will not mind these kind of preconditions

All three of the guys you mentioned were inexperienced when they took over. We cannot afford to have another inexperienced coach - this selection is huge for us and we need experience. Someone who knows the footy world, has good instincts, understands the game in its current climate and knows how to win.

Craig and Williams would both be great to fit this role and Craig is already showing that he hasn't lost touch through the side's last few performances. An inexperienced, younger coach is way too risky right now, another Neeld who turns out to know a lot less than he says will destroy the club.

I dont advocate carte blanche. There has to be an out , based around agreeable kpi's but I vertainly dont want someone swanning in collecting a wonderful stipend for turning up and shuffling off after a couple of seasons leaving us to pick up the pieces once again. Over simplistic I concede but thats the rub of it.

Who ever comes in will have their work cut out and it wont happen overnight. I simply ask why would anyone seriously take on this humungous challenge only to cut loose just as you start to get somewhere. Id be wanting to see it through to the inevitable ( crossed fingers ) glory.
