Nick Duigan and Jeremy Laidler

Recommended Posts

Don't we already have Pederson to fill that role?

My mind at the moment just goes 'Midfielders, Midfielders, Midfielders'.

Also,I'm not really interested in targeting average players. I think all effort should go into trading or recruiting players who genuinely stand out. 'Average' can be filled by the developing young players and older players who have lost a little but are still competent.

I would consider Laidler, but definitely not Duigan as he is too old and his best is past him.

As for Laidler I wouldn't jump up and down to get him, he is a depth player at best with the potential with more to come based on his age and previous performances. In regards to a trade potentially Fitzpatrick with an exchange of later picks (in our favour) only because I know Carlton are dieing for another big forward and Fitzpatrick can't cut it as a ruckman and won't hold a spot in our best 22 with the inclusion of Hogan and Clark next year.

It amazes me that just when a player shows a bit.......Posters here want to trade them because they have some perceived value.....

Amazing really.......

It amazes me that when a player shows a bit everyone jumps on the bandwagon thinking he'll be the next big thing. The club could have traded Stefan Martin a year earlier and got much more than what we did at the end of 2012. The simple fact is he won't make the best 22 if Clark, Watts, Hogan and Dawes are all fit. Then not to mention if Howe takes up a more permanent position in the forward set up. If he is showing something now trade him while the iron is hot. Make a club like Carlton (or the Lions who need a key forward) pay overs and take full advantage of their needs and desires.

There is still things in football and they are called injuries.......They happen all the time........It would be great to have traded Fitz and then discover that Clark can't come back from his injury........

I read in the Fitzpatrick thread people harp on about his excellent form at Casey and his fantastic hands. His dropped marks are from "nerves" and other such garbage excuses. Overall he has thus far failed to impress me at the AFL level, I am not going to get excited off the back of one game. Cam Pederson last year too showed phenomenal form in the VFL, he won his clubs best and fairest ahead of Ben Ross the 2012 J.J. Liston winner, but yet Cam has also failed to translate that VFL form at the AFL level. The recently drafted Tom Lee of St. Kilda is another prime example.

On the point of Laidler I stated above I wouldn't jump up and down to get him, but the club could take full advantage of Fitzpatrick's "glimpses" and the absolute need for a big forward by other clubs because by the end of next year he will be as valuable as dust. People must stop becoming so one-eyed towards the quality and more so "potential" of their players and view other clubs lists in the same manner without the heart and love but in a logical manner. I hope Fitzpatrick can take it up another notch, I hope it pricks up the ears of a few clubs so they must compete to pay overs. It's as simple as that.

Whilst he's no superstar, it wasn't that long ago that Duigan was part of the captaincy discussion at Carlton. He was voted into the leadership group so clearly he was rated for those attributes. He's fallen out of favour with Malthouse, but personally I've always liked the way he goes about it and am surprised he can't earn a spot on the field in what seems a dispirited group at times. He gives 110% and is absolutely fearless. For a hard nosed defender we could do alot worse than Duigan, notwithstanding the real focus is the midfield.

Heard from a Carlton supporting friend who knows Duigan's roommate that Duigan was keen to come to Melbourne. This was pre his 4 goal final, and pre Roos appointment.

Assume it would've been for more opportunity.

Just passing it on.

I don't like getting players for depth. I'd rather go for potential, youth or if Roos & co can see a bargain. But please no more NQR's we've got enough already.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
