The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

That'll be a huge blow. I think maybe we could get a 2nd rounder (hoping the AFL sympathises with us) but he will leave a gaping hole we will absolutely need to fill with a senior midfielder. Having said that though, I'm beginning to think Sylvia will stay with us.

Hey DJ, he's making all the right sounds in wanting to stay, but if he goes, he goes.

Hopefully, the club will scour the land to find a hard edged midfielder that will work with Joneses and Viney.

2nd rounder would be very generous on the AFL's part....I'd take it.

I reckon Col will stay, plus it is better for us to keep him, than let him walk. we need big bodies and senior players, letting him go would be a big mistake.

Taylor Adams we must offer bid bucks, need to if we are to be more appealing that Hawks/Tigers.

No trading of picks. Just get in good young talent.

See if we can pluck a few older heads being starved for opportunity elsewhere.

Keep Watts/Howe. Trade Jamar if someone will take him. Not Likely tho.

I really think we should pick up Dale Garlett. Especially if we get Choco to coach. Would much prefer to have him running around than a Byrnes or Rodan.

These guys came in because of their ability to build a 'culture.'

You know what? I don't give a rats any more. Give me a laid back, smokin', wild boy from the West who gets the effin ball and kicks goals!!

any news on watts? for a bloke keen to stay things have gone pretty quiet

I read this morning the blues and Betts have hit a snag in contract negotiations. We MUST move in quickly here offer him a big 3 year deal and get him to the dees!!!

Give him 3 years and 3 bags of Samboys.

Listened with interest to Roos talking about the Swans midfield the other day - players in the small forward mould (ala Milne, Betts, Davey) DON"T get a game at Sydney if they can't rotate through the midfield also. This is why they use Mitchell, McGlynn, O'Keefe as "small forwards". The Swans seems to simply have 5-6 BIG blokes and 16-17 mids each week.

That's what I've been trying to get across to people here for ages now, Hawthorn and Geelong are the same. It's no wonder they are the top 3 sides in the AFL.

That and Betts seems to think he is worth 600k..

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Best laugh I've had in a while.

Yeah im sure sydney and geelong agree with you.

Sydney and Geelong are successful - they can do whatever the [censored] they want.

if we get pick one could we trade it to gc for david swallow and a pick? he hasnt set the world on fire because of injury

If that's the case, why would we want him?

because he is a hard nosed mid with bucket loads of talent at the right age

Our problem in the midfield is twofold IMO. We don't win the contested footy and when we do our spread is painfully slow. With that in mind I would have thought we need another inside mid that compliments Jones and hopefully Viney and a Fyfe type that is predominantly a run and carry but can get his own ball. For mine, Aish falls into the latter category and the second selection, mature age or otherwise needs to be bigger bodied. Wines showed a first year player can achieve this. And Port showed this does not necessarily need to be a four year process.

I have been saying that for a min. of five years jr

Do Bombers fans care about the tarnished reputations of their players.

Hell no the are winning lots.

Now that is not to say we should become drug cheats but like you I don't care

Exactly, Hell if we're winning, who cares how many darts and cans Dayle Garlett smashes after each match...

We could put it in his contract, every touch he gets, he gets a dart for the week. A goal could be worth 3 cans..

So a 25D 4G game would get him a pack of ciggies and half a slab for his Saturday night..

Write up the contract now...

Good idea.

Gold Coast badly want a franchise key forward of the future, in the mould of Tom Boyd.

I'd be talking with them for sure if we had pick 1 and Swallow has gone a bit under the radar this year - seems to be a bit behind Prestia, O'Meara, Bennell and Harbrow in the midfield pecking order.

I'm hearing some pretty strong Choco/Dustin Martin package deal rumours...

Hang on a sec......ciggies will be the price of gold soon!!!

I have heard similar sorts of rumours, would be a great get through the pre season draft if we could swing that and hold onto our currency, not sure what we have the Richmond would want for him besides high picks, he's not a free agent yet is he?

KJ, that thinking is too radical for this club.

We prefer 98 pound weaklings that get sand kicked in their face at the beach.

We should supply them all with a Bullworker and a poster on how to use it.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
