The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

I'm very impressed how well the guys are playing this. I expect nothing more from PR and PJ. We are in expert hands for a change....

It's a nice feeling isn't it?

Still hard to believe though.

Wasn't there talk that Essendon players could break their contracts and walk as a free agent to their club of choice? If try why not offer Myers a good contract to leave and nominate us for free. Once the free agent window is closed so we get our compo. do Sylvia out. In Myers and Band 3 or 4 compo?

You are kidding...we have done sweet fa so far

By far the worst trade period in history.. Not for Melbourne but AFL in general.

What trade period?? Doesn't start to next week...

Dont actually agree. A littel long winded but its like a game of 3D chess played out as a 3 act play. A lot of things get lined up for that last week . Almost like the horses turning for the home straight in the cup, then its on for young and old...lol.

About to get interesting

Playing it safe my friend, clearly something is going to happen but it has been bloody quiet so far

We could get Myers on board but Essendon wont accept Pick 20 for him. I'm pretty convinced of that. If they wont take pick 22 for Crameri why would they give up a younger player who can be an important midfielder for them?

Why on Earth would they rate him better than pick 20? Consensus from most sources is that pick 22 for Crameri is about right. Myers shouldn't be worth more than him. Crameri was their leading goalkicker for this year while Myers struggles to get a start in their side.

Hasn't it been said before that nobody wants to get into trades with the Bombers? They seem to be constitutionally unable to grasp what is reasonable for their outgoing players. They are always massively unreasonable and have a history of putting a huge pricetag on their players and sticking to it in the face of all logic and failing to get the deal done. They basically waste everyone's time every year trying to get extra for their players and not getting anything in the end.

Adam White tweeting that offers starting to come in for pick 2, package deals coming in (not single player for pick) and that GWS are leading the race.

Excellent

Are GWS offering Dylan and Shiel ??:)

Are GWS offering Dylan and Shiel ??:)

now that's a positive attitude!

Part of GWS deal would def be pick 9

Not if they included Shiel. But could see them going pick 9 and Tom Bugg or Dom Tyson for pick 2. Get rid of a guy who wants to go home and let them get absolute class. They have the tall forwards but they don't have the midfield stars that GC have with O'Meara and Martin. They'd be keen for the absolute best midfielder

Dom Tyson and Pick 9 for Pick 2?

We think alike Wiseblood.

I was more referring to they way the club is run Lord not specifically the trade period

I've come to be fond of the prospect of getting Kelly at pick 2, as I really rate this guy (I know others have concerns on his light frame - not me), but would still be happy to trade it for Shiel.

He's about the only deal that interests me, so "package deals" doesn't overly excite. Shiel is a must if it's GWS.

Right.

Just don't give up your day job ... please!

At least it's a contribution.

You should try it.

  2. Package deals are being offered to Melbourne. Not one player for pick 2. The Giants look like they're leading the race at this stage.

With you on all counts. Kelly does have a frame that could fill out reasonably well. Yes, he's lightly framed, but I wouldn't put him in the Morton class.

I tend to agree, as I'm more concerned over Aish's light frame than Kelly's.

The only alternative would be the Dom Tyson & pick 9 for pick 2 trade proposal, but even that is a longshot.

I think it's a pretty even deal, even though Tyson was pick 3 in his draft.

And I've seen some reports convinced he is ensconced in Sydney.

Shiel would usually be considered purely fantasy, but I hold out hope he is bent on coming back to Melb for Choco's daughter...

Ahhhh young love!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
