The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Look, he might be worth Pick 2, but I'm not convinced.....I'm maligning the constant barrage of negative commentary if you dare have a debate.

I will admit I've not seen enough or noticed shiel enough when watching GWS games to say wether he is worth it.

I watched Shiel closely this year and I dare say GWS would be asking for more than pick 2.

Thanks for that....;)

Btw, just to change tact.....is Roos turning the screws on Frawley to sign?

Will posters be upset if he gets traded??

Surely if Frawley gets a big offer we match it.

Does he have to stay if we match the offer?

According to what was said about restricted free agents on SEN the other day, he is not bound by that but would have to nominate for the PSD. In which case, if we had pick 1 I'd be picking him straight back up!

Of course, but we won't have to because Chip will be signing a renewal next season.

I'd take Toby Greene no problem. But I rate Shiel and someone I know who sees a lot of young players through his involvement in local footy rates shiel very highly.

It depends how they rate others at the top of this year's draft pool. Say they really wanted Scharenberg. They have a lot of midfield talent, so trading for Pick 2 means they get to grab Boyd and Scharenberg.

Interesting... Thinking back to last year when GWS chose Plowman, O'Rourke with pick 2 and pick 3 instead of other highly rated players and both of them hardly played all year, I wouldn't think they would choose Scharenberg over Aish or Kelly.

If their strategy is long term it makes sense but why trade Shiel, who has 2 years under his belt learning to compete at the top leve for ather KPP in Scharenberg? Sure their list is full of mids but having developed Shiel it would make sense to trade him for a developed KPP.

Of course, but we won't have to because Chip will be signing a renewal next season.

And u know this how Django?

We are desperate for ready to go mids and don't really want to wait for Aish or Kelly to play 50 games before they can have a big impact on games, I think we should aim higher with our pick 2, which I think is what you are saying. At worst we will be getting a quality mid with our pick 2. With our results since 2006 and trade history in mind I think Shiel will be a good way to use our pick 2. But why would GWS want to give him up just to pick up another mid.... What do we have that they would want?

Well said.

I believe GWS would seriously consider Scharenberg if we gave them pick 2. They have a large abundance of quality up and coming mids, their forward line consists of Cameron, Patton and likely Boyd (pick 1). I think Scharenberg would be close to the top of their list as that large running defender. With he, Plowman and Davis their defense will start looking the part also.

Sorry AdamFarr I just saw you said the exact same thing.

Shiel will only be traded by GWS if he asks to go home.

And does he?

Does he asks?

Greene is everything we lack - a true inside mid with hardness around the contest and a innate ability to find the footy. But GWS don't have much in the way of true inside mids either. He's vital to their structure - so for that reason we'd be doing well to get him in a straight swap for pick 2, let alone with something back. We'd have a better chance of getting Shiel, they've got a few of that type.

Outside of the pick 2 scenario, Are there any likely midfield prospects in the VFL, SANFL,WAFL that might be a good pick up for us?

We have had some decent types in the past that just struggle to make the grade because of lack of pace. Anyway, that's probably why they aren't at the top level because pace does make a difference.

However, there is always a gem out there at the lower level that has been overlooked and is quick enough to play at AFL level.

Any players come to mind?

All good, sir.

Starting to smell as if we may have done a large deal with Adelaide, potentially trading pick 2 - Rory Sloan perhaps?

"However AFL.com.au understands any deals that might involve the two Crows reaching Melbourne are quite separate and not part of a complicated package exchanging picks and players"

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-13/trade-wrap-sunday

Vince & Lyons in a separate trade

You have to think we would be trading out a player or two in order to lessen the impact on our draft position

Wasn't Fitzpatrick rumoured to have been seen in Adelaide?
