This trade period is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

They could all take a week or two of annual leave and come back at 1pm on the last day of the trade period and still achieve as much.

It reminds me of e-bay auctions - the real action only occurs at the '11th hour'. The earlier time is only jousting and posturing.

...and of course corowa, you know everything that is going on behind closed doors?????

Good Heavens, Monoccular, I've never claimed to know anything that's going on, let alone everything.

I'm merely commenting on how past drafts have panned out, where very little happens for most of the time, then the 'big' wheeling and dealing occurs right at the end.

Clubs keeping their 'powder dry'.

But I think a few would agree with me that the first week or so of the trade period is generally as 'boring as bat poo'.

Yeah, some no-brainers to get the period rolling, then nothing but furphies until the frenzy at the end.

Lets face it: we're going to ask way over for #2 and they'll offer way unders. Then we all dance around for a week or so as we all try to get the best bang for our buck.

I'd be amazed and angry if we said yes to the first offer thrown at us.

Perhaps the "issues" comment has something to do with this - Bad blood - coaches Andrew Collins and Nathan Bassett get physical at half-time

Reminds me of something Clarkson would do. And he seems to be coaching ok.

I like that Bassett is his own man and decided to go for the SANFL senior job instead of following other players into assistant jobs and getting lost in the system. Ballsy

Bassett has issues (apparently). It is the reason clubs haven't been trying to snap him up. They were talking about it on SEN today. Can't remember who it was. I got the feeling that he wasn't really a team player when it came to the coaching side of things and hence the difficulty in stepping in as an assistant and taking orders etc...

Bassett's only issue I know of has been a reluctance to compromise his work/family balance by taking on the hours of an AFL Assistant Coach. However he has said in the last few days that if he wants to be a Senior AFL Coach he understands he needs to get back into the AFL system but taking on that commitment and moving cities is a more complex when you have a young family. Sounds pretty balanced to me. Was signed up by the Kangaroos but they withdrew their offer a few days later when Tudor became available.

Apparently Channel 7 in Adelaide reported a couple of days ago we had offered Jarryd Lyons a 3 year deal???

One things for sure, won't be seeing any trades between the Swans and Dees - Stirred up a hornets nest there

you would be forgiven for thinking its very unlikely lol

Went to a function last night and spoke to a bloke who knows mfc board members.

We are offering pick 2 for Shiel but GWS are playing hard ball. The good news is that the file isn't closed yet.

We have had separate meetings with both Shiel and Bugg and it would seem that both are interested in coming back to Vic. GWS are backing in their ability to retain both on new contracts to avoid losing them. It could be a bluff in an effort to get more in return from us.

Very Interesting BBP does Shiel want to come to us but?

Interesting.. source?

Without going into specifics, my info comes from within GWS.

FWIW There are a few players up there who would like to come home but I don't think that is any different to any young players at other AFL clubs. I am not that confident that we will see Shiel in MFC colours.

Cheers JJJ!

What makes not confident in Shiel to us?

The GWS asking price and I don't think Shiel has yet to state that he wants to come to MFC definitively yet. Lots of water to pass under the bridge......

Yep that's what I thought.

Said the other day if Shiel was to come home it would either be Carlton or Richmond.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
