Jobe took banned drug

This might be a critical point. If (and it's a big if) the players were told that they were only being given vitamins (1) McVeigh would be correct in saying he believed they only ever had vitamins and (2) medical fraud would have been committed if they'd been injected with something else without their knowledge or consent.

It's not strange. He's on Channel 7's payroll. Similarly, Channel 9 goes to Matthew Lloyd for the same reason.

Are you sure about this? Or just a freelance under contract. Does a whole lot of work. Sportingbet TV, SEN 1116. Not sure he's actually on the payroll as an employee for 7 even if making regular appearances. Still doesn't explain why 7 couldn't have brought in another ex Bonger in Reimers for a completely different view/aspect given that he was the first "public" whistleblower.

I think the explanation is easy RN

They did not want any more negative comment

You mean more likely to crash and burn than to take a sip from the poisoned challice?

Some Bombers do go down in flames sadly....

More than likely on the money OD.

There wasn't a contradictory/combative person on the entire panel taking an opposing view eg., picking up McVeigh on his defense/aggressive outburst earlier in the year when the story first broke, why didn't Luke "the AFL apologist" Darcy ask about Dr Reid's role?, If Reid was left out of the supplements experiment who made the decision? where is Dr Reid now and why has nobody spoken to him (not one person on the panel mentioned or asked about Reid, probably the most important cog in the entire saga outside ot Dank!?) etc etc.

No doubt some unwritten guidelines must have been put in place by 7 hierarchy and producers prior to the program going to air with legal situations/advice as an overlay. 7 not willing to jeopardise the next broadcast contract. With the amount of $$/careers at stake now nothing is left to chance and everything would appear to be very carefully "managed", from the top down. What you say is correct, and looking back on it in the clear light of day now, it was no coincidence that not one member of the panel was willing to put the hard questions up.

I think the AFL policy on this issue is to stick all their heads in the sand at the same time and hope it goes away.

After all the AFL are not attacking a Club who will not fight back like the MFC, the EFC will likely challenge any AFL ruling on this matter.

The real victims here are the AFL officials.

Richard Ings, formerly of ASADA is now saying the AFL is backing away from a decision before the finals. The heat too much for Vlad?

'Jack', any clue what Richard Ings is now or is his job description "former head of ASADA". He bobs up all over the place but I don't know what he does now, he's certainly made a name for himself as media go to man.

They will make themselves victims if they pursue a pi55weak drug policy, as they have done with Mr Saad.

Bombers examine drug report

It was also reported by Channel Seven on Sunday that a key ASADA official had addressed Essendon players at a meeting on May 6 and assured them they would receive ''at worst, an infraction notice and a warning''. And that the club's lawyers were at the meeting and recorded it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but May 6 was before the Essendon players were interviewed by ASADA and well before the investigation was completed and the report written.

If true, this is the back room deal of the century. Well played ASADA and EFC!

If that is the case I will only hope that that is true then WADA come in with a big stick and stuff both ASADA and EFC right up.

I just look at jobe 4 years ago

fat, didn't run. bad kick, looked very lazy

I hope, hard work and growing mature would have accomplished all of that

It's a fantastic example for some of our blokes who maybe need a wake up call in terms of how hard they need to work and how hard at it they need to be to make it.

those anti obesity shots worked a gem

So the press think there is no hard evidence to sink Essendon players. If so, it may come down to what Dank says and can backup when ASADA interviews him under the new laws. Seems there are 3 things he could do:

1. state he injected players with totally legal pure spring water or whatever

2. drop them in it

3, refuse to answer on the ground of self-incrimination (eg. fraud against players or even assault).

Does anyone know if ASADA's powers include IPCC-like ones, namely tell the truth but what you say can't be used in a criminal proceedings against you?

Fox sports is saying that Essendon will lose their points at seasons end...

That is no punishment unless their win the flag and have it stripped.

If the penalties are not handed down til seasons end they should play next year for no points like the storm did.

if they dont win the flag then it is a hollow and worthless penalty. 40 point deduction at least for next season.

They should play out '14 for no points... like Storm had to.

Let them experience futility

if that's the case they should lose draft selections.

the softening has started

the AFL will probably take points off them after last game with a big pressor and say something to the tune of :look how tuff we are' and then all excitement will fizzle because of the finals

they will also make some cheezy statement about asada doing more investigating into players

and then the show will be over. no player to face the 2 year bans

only hiccup will be to get all players to sign a confidentiality agreement to stop the story resurfacing in ten years time

Jazza In have been saying the penalties are going to be light now for months.

I will stay with that until proven wrong.

don't know whats right any more, but at post 38 ive let my feelings be known

Ive a sneaky suspicion WADA wont take to being made fools of too kindly

They walk rather quietly with a very BIG stick

Two articles from abroad that demonstrate how far off the mark we are in Australia in terms of cleaning up our sport of drug cheats - Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell know the rules they are responsible for everything they consume

You cannot play with the rules and then hope to get away with it. If there are people cheating out there, I would suggest that they get out and get another job.

This principle applies everywhere else in the world but in the light of what we've heard and read about the ASADA investigation, can we say the same about the football codes in Australia?

Turkey is way ahead of us too - Turkey hands out two-year drug bans to 31 of its track and field athletes, including Olympic medallist Esref Apak

We spend millions on ASADA and, after 6 months and changes in our legislation, our drugs in sport watchdog can't even carry out a complete investigation - Teflon Dons escape drug bans

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
