Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Neeld was the wrong personality that was brought into a dysfuntional club when it was being run by incompetent people.

If a Simpson or Tudor were to be given the job now they'd have a much better chance than Neeld ever did. I have no direct knowledge of what sort of personalities they possess but if what I've read on here is anything to go by they'd engage well with most players/teams.

Still consider it to be too risky to try another virgin coach.

I agree McQueen

The MFC must have a coach who has a good senior record.

2014 is going to be hard with few wins.

We cannot have the situation where in the first week of May with no wins the press / fans saying this guy cannot coach!

IMO it is vitial we have either Eade, Williams or someone similar.

The MFC cannot afford another Untried assistant.

I hope you do not include Mark Neeld as a untried assistant.

There is no way I would have that DH back!

You're right.

Further, these two come from successful teams with exemplary culture.

Respect, respect, respect.

Neeld never had it, nor could he structure a strategy around gaining it.

If so it will be another bland, uninspiring choice by the MFC.

I can live with Neil Craig as coach.

Would be pretty happy with Tudor as a senior coach, he certainly knows what it takes to be successful at AFL level and get the best out of players.

No more untried coaches, please. 5 years of this rubbish. Time to right the ship.

Roos, Craig, Eade - all proven - I'm happy with any of them.

I think you have missed the point TBF

I was saying we cannot have another untried assistant as the senior coach.

There are probably a number of assistants out there who would make good coaches.

The MFC similar cannot afford them.

If bland and uninspiring is a head coach with experience in the job and a proven winning record then maybe we should be boring.

We out think ourselves with engaging young 'next big things' and convince ourselves that we will be trendsetters.

We need to establish a decent, hard working, selfless culture to base this club on.

Williams, Eade, and Craig are capable of giving us that.

With Craig's detractors seemingly blinded by perception and the ties, ironically enough, to this club.

I will still be happy with any of Roos, Williams, Eade or Craig.

I have a preference but all can do the job ahead.

It will be as important who they get as assistants . They often impart as much if not more to the list being closer to the coalface.

2014 will be a quantum improvement over 2013's set up

geez OD, you lowering your standards old mate...

eade or williams is just change for changes sake, differing shades of Grey, from which we already have now.

.... if we have to go through the disruption Yet again, just for changes sake,,, it isn't worth it, & I won't be renewing.

I think we need a coach to help build the culture from the ground up. And said coach needs to not be finding his feet at the sane time. This the need for experienced, he needs to be sure in his own methods first.

If Craig is the best available who fits this requirement I'll take him but given where we are at a a club with respect to supporters, hope and the need to get this rift to engage or club, I think Craig is the worst positioned of the senior candidates.

His other qualities and skill sets may be enough to rank him higher overall than other candidates but his appointment will not be the best from a club promotion/media/supporter point of view unless it is sold very very well.

It is unfortunate that the club needs an appointment that gives hope to those outside the club. I hope that doesn't over ride the other requirements for a coach, but it should be considered, as should his existing relationship with the players and any benefits that some stability may have on this playing list.

Either I wrote my comment poorly or you are misinterpreting it.

Either way I have no idea who you want as the new coach.

I hope you are not saying you want another unknown who comes with zero credibility.

I can imagine that the AFL will force us to announce our new coach to draw attention away from the currently unfolding disaster at Essendon and get it off the back page. (Probably still be on the front page though)

Do you really think the sporting world, or for that matter, the AFL community could give a toss about who we announce as our next coach? Us making an announcement will not draw attention away from anything else that's going on. We are an insignifcant club in the eyes of most.

Of the 3 leading candidates, the reaction/headline will be;

If Roos is appointed - Melbourne got their man, but is he doing it for the right rea$on$?

If Eade is appointed - logical appointment given he still has the desire to coach and we wanted someone with experience

If Williams is appointed - logical appointment given he still has the desire to coach and we wanted someone with experience

What's the one thing the 3 potential appointments have in common? It's hardly newsworthy. The only appointment that will possibly interest some would be Roos, just to see if he is the magician that we all think he is and can turn this train wreck around.

It's only a matter of time til I start reading on here about us not announcing a new sponsor because the cricket's on, or the tennis, or the ballet. And that we are waiting to make an announcement to get "maximum exposure".

The sooner our supporters realise we are like a homeless person in the street the better. The average Joe just walks past and totally ignores us, while every now and then, someone might stop to read what's on the sign we are holding up, feel sorry for us, then move on. When the Club understands this, which I have no doubt PJ does, then we can use this as one of the driving factors to improve, because basically, people are expecting us to die. We will not be significant (or newsworthy) again until we show a sign of life. I'm as passionate as anyone on here, but I'm also not in denial.

It's a delicate balance, between giving supporters hope, and the head start that comes with the benefit of having been with the club for 2 years prior, getting to know the personalities involved, building relationships and an intimate knowledge of the problems that need to be overcome.

Any other coach coming in may have experience, but they still come in blind.

That may be an advantage in some cases, but I think in the whole, a prior knowledge would be a much greater advantage.

I don't think the other coaches would come into the job with a list of tailored demands like Craig would have.

(Still prefer Roos)

I'm not certain.

While I don't think the AFL would bother trying to manipulate us to detract from Essendrug, I still think it would garner a great amount of media attention.

Paul Roos returning to coaching would be a massive story.

One aspect that will be debated is whether he did it for the right reasons.

Also the fact he feigned disinterest would provide fodder for many articles.

Eade & Williams provides all the "how does it feel to be second choice?" rhetoric.

But overall, these 3 will play to the media, and whilst the media love to kick a team on its way down, the thing they love just as much is a story of redemption, especially if by one they already have an existing relationship with.

And they'll be falling over themselves to be the first to report it at the smallest sight of an improvement.

But also don't underestimate the laziness of the media.

Fortunately enough, we are very close to most media outlets HQ, so it's not much effort for then to pop down to the club for a presser.

We're also right next to Collingwood, so they can kill 2 birds with one stone.

We're one of the easy options when they're stuck for something to write about.

No, we are not. We sell a lot of papers and the general public would be interested in our current status.

Dont renew, every time something mightn't go your way you threaten the club with not paying membership, your a clown go and follow another club.

Rushing to sign Neeld remains as conjecture as far as I know. It was just a poor, poor decision by those in charge to hand an absolute basket case to a bloke who was way out of his depth. This is why Jackson has repeated time and time again that the next senior coach must be experienced, and that's not just about the actual game itself.

To bring in another new senior coach is not what the club needs. It needs a coach who has experience in dragging a whole club up from the depths of despair.

On & Off the field.

We simply cannot have another Rookie, we have just had 2 & the club is barely breathing.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
