Which team & gamestyle, Do/Did you most enjoy & respect ?

*The Lions of the early 2000's ?

*The Swans one on one style?

*The Cats game of the past 5 years?

*The Hawks recent gamestyle?

*The Saints/Freo under Lyon?

..... IMO, if you want to find a coach, first identify the gamestyle you think will fit this club, & then start looking for the best person, who can deliver what you want.

Collingwood under Malthouse in the 2010 premership... whoever their midfield coach is we should get him!

Hawks of the 80's, Lions of 2000's, Cats of recent years are the three best I have seen.

I rate the Lions as the best of these. Incredible skill, serious aggressive grunt and the best captain I have ever seen in Voss.

pointless OD because not all gamestyles will satisfy the MFC supporter, & the last thing we need is more supporters wanting to sack coaches before they get started on their plans.

IMO we need to have a responsible gamestyle... one where we are responsible for our opponents & shut them down then atack on the rebound...

NOT an all out defence, of a Ross Lyon style, & Nor an all out attacking game, like the Port Adelaide teams of 2005 & onwards...

Respect: Freo (it works independent of talent, which is remarkably difficult in a competition built on elite talent).

Enjoy: Geelong, and recently The Suns.

Geelong, play positive football, never drop their head and have a culture of and holding each other to account. They don't waste time talking about leadership because they have 22 leaders out there every week.

i really like north in full flight, they are great to watch. Once they put away games they'll be a threat in the not to distant future

At this point in our history de-luded I do not care what style we employ.

As long as it wins games I do not care how boring or attacking or defence it is.

I'm not getting at what you prefer, I'm getting at selecting the right horse for our course.

& I'm suggesting that even if we had Ross Lyon here, it wouldn't be too long before many would tire of the totally negative plays. Freo may suit him much better.. I know a few Stkilda supporters who hated & were totally bored with the Lyon gamestyle... many did not renew their memberships because of this.

to get the supporters to buy in, you need to have a suitable gamestyle as well as winning otherwise the honeymoon period can be really short.

its not just grabbing a coach. not like in the 60's... just a motivator.... now with differing strategies, these things should come into "play" as it were.

I love what the lions did, it was ground-breaking at the time and had the coaches stamp all over it.

Sydney I have huge respect for because of their uncompromising culture and attitude on the field.

Geelong I love to watch simply for the ability of the players on display.

Don't care much for Ross Lyon. He instils discipline and defence, but he's never quite pulled off a flag. Carlton are nothing. The hawks I think have a very good gameplan and some real stars, but I'm not sold on them as a unit in the finals. Could well be a prelim or runner up again this year.

its about the matching of a suitable gamestyle, with a coach who employs that type gamestyle...

of course, the current gamestyle at North is of Brad Scott, a Matthews disciple... & you could say that the current Cats gamestyle may have tinges of a Matthews influence via Chris Scott.

the Swans have the Roos 'One on One' style, developed on the SCG, & from his early days at Fitzroy, the forerunner to the more contested footy of the last 5 years... thankfully contested footy came back.
