Do you know how he went, or are you just assuming? If the MFC is such a joke, please go and support some successful club... I would really hate for you to have to do the hard yards.

Everyone on this board has done hard yards, they screwed up again, thats only a matter of time before thats proven, D Barry weighs 32 kgs,you live in Sydney, how many games a season do you go to? you dont know what hard yards are, im telling you they screwed up with pick 4.

Dont tell me about training, i live 5 minutes from Casey Fields, i have seem more sessions than you have, probably 100 since O8, the only decent greyhound i have seen train there in that time is T Scully, i tell you now jim isnt fit to tie his boots laces.

I love it how you also know how many training sessions I've been too - you are a funny guy.

Not sure if you know but they train more at on those ovals across from AAMI park. Therefore I have seen more of Jimmy than you.

But no issue because you know everything and like to be the top dog with the last word eh!

Cue your continued grandstanding on how and you think an 18yo kid is who will never be anything.

Poor you..

Mjt,

You have to look at the recent draftees in a slightly more long term view. 5 weeks doesn't maketh a career. Viney has looked good, Hogan looks sensational, Barry is a very long term project, Toumpas would look 100% better in a side not getting pumped by 100 points each week he's played. Calm down mate. These are 18 year olds. Every time I spend 5 minutes with my 18 year old nephew I'm shocked at what we expect from new recruits. Give em time.

I respect your post, long term views are finished with this club,Hogans hasnt played a game, Toumpas looks terrible, Barry weighs 32 kgs and Viney was ours from the start, like i said earlier Toumpas has showed virtually nothing .

I agree.

Big Dom Barry fan though, that kid will be silk when he bulks up and we got him for next to nothing.

Barry was steak knives and it's worth the speculative pick I think.

we have done really well with this draft in my opinion, Toumpas shows class but needs time, viney is going to be a star, Hogan looks a ready made star, kent looks fantastic, jones and terlich both look like very solid AFL players also

critics of Toumpas need to be more paitent, wouldn't be at all surprised if he ends up being the best of all those draftee's

I don't care if he plays at casey most of the year. I don't get why our draftees are expected to carry our senior guys in their first 5 minutes at the club.

Yes, jimmy is a outside jet that is the cream on top and not a grunt mid but as he develops so too will our grunt insiders Matt Jones, viney, kent and Taggart. Add that list to Nate Jones, Grimes, Sylvia, Howe, Trengrove.... I'm pretty bloody excited by our recruiting!

Any chance we could return to the topic of the thread and how the scorpions went instead of an MJT threeonesix [censored] thread?

Any reports from the ground / stats etc?

Cheers

They dont develop, thats the problem, if the MFC board and the FD where to sell you a house you would be in debt to the age of 80,they have no idea and there full of [censored].

I went along to the game tonight but missed the first 10 minutes. Casey is normally windy but tonight is was ridiculous. At one point I had to move because my eyes were watering into the wind!

I was really impressed with the coach - I think it is Rohan Welsh. Clear instructions that were concise and to the point.

It was a tough night for good footy. 4-5 goal wind for most of the night.

Dunn was outstanding. He played loose across half back, which I know is the easiest position in footy, but his reading of the play followed by his kicking was superb. If Watts does not play well, Dunn comes straight back in.

Strauss. Played a very good game. Had a little bit of run-and-carry through the middle and delivered well most times. He appeared quicker than I remembered him.

Taggert. I really like this kid. Strong over the ball, showed some gut running and kicked well. Was very smart at times using the ball into the wind. Kicked three (I think)

Fitzpatrick.Great game. Proved a handful for Williamstown every time he was near the ball. Ran all night, flew for every mark and his pace was amazing. Seemed to have iron hands a bit - the ball bounced off them when he had a clear chance at marking. An impressive game considering the wind made it a shocking night for tall players.

Hogan. Didn't see him get it too much.

Toumpas. He got to a lot of contests but didn't seem to impact many of them. However, in the last quarter he was superb. His kicking to position against the wind was really good and he got in an under in defence when needed.

Dawes. Not a great game. When he kicked for goal I am sure he did not kick through the ball well, and it seemed he was holding back on a full effort. I doubt he will play for the Dees against Carlton. His positioning and defensive efforts were good at times.

Davis. He gets to a lot of contests and plays hard when he needs to.

Kent. I was not sure of his number until the game was almost over so I am unsure how he went.

Dunn, Strauss and Fitzpatrick played worthily enough to be considered for game against Carlton. Taggert maybe.

They screwed up with Toumpas? Living in Sydney or living in Melbourne (or even in Casey) does not make any difference and the number of games I attend in person makes no difference to what I see of these players. You are just a product of the "now" generation that demand instant gratification... as I commented to tanotopia (your classmate?), you must be the guy furiously honking your horn in the KFC or Maccas drive-thru because they have taken over 2 minutes to fulfill the order of the car in front.

I don't know what hard yards are???? Just how long have you been following this club and how long to you think I have been a supporter. As I said, go and follow a successful club... you'll feel a lot better until they start to fade... but don't worry, you'll be able to jump ship again.

Soft!!

Wines is looking good but you can't expect Toumpas to set the world on fire in our [censored] midfield. Compare what's around Wines to what's around Toumpas.

Thanks to those who reported on the game.

I'd love mjt to tell us just 1 thing the MFC has done right, but not in this thread. His computer will probably melt if he does - vey boring and predictable.

The only thing thats soft is those putrid NSW men, i go to the MCG 8 times a year, dont harp to me about getting instant gratification, i [censored] cant stand you, you dont even attend games, who are you to tell me to be patient, go watch it live and see how you feel.

Thanks Maldonboy. Finally a return to the topic.

I haven't seen Fitzy this year and even though he has played some good games his inability as a tall to mark the ball I believe will ultimately hold him back as at AFL level he simply will not have the time nor opportunity to double back on the spilt ball. He will also meet quicker and stronger defenders. I may be proven wrong but he needs to improve his marking ability in my view.

There is something I really like about Taggert. Just hope he keeps the upward curve going and can translate to AFL.

I honestly feel we are missing Dunn in the AFL side at the moment coming out of defence.

I'm assuming Jimmy and Couch racked em up in the middle again?

Glad Strauss is also playing more consistently. Another who I feel can step up if he gets an uninterrupted run at it.

I can tell you they both hit the pack hard - brutal a times. Because of the wind there were a lot of packs and it wasn't easy to see through the tangle of bodies. But Couch did have a good game all around the ground.

I didn't include either of them in the report because they are rookies and I didn't want people saying they should be picked for next week.

How was Cranny maccas tonight?

Also 8 games a year ain't much....but we need battlers like yourself.

Do you have children? I hope not! To write off young men so early is quite frightening ! We exalt about the early 20's vfl players who were overlooked & then make it when they have mature bodies & minds & then write off 18 yr olds who haven't had a chance to prove themselves ????

It would seem like their sort of conditions. Thanks again.

For Dawes it will just be about getting a run into his legs and coming through unscathed.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
