What decent opposition players are uncontracted from other clubs come seasons end???

Steve Johnson isn't small, Jimmy Bartel plays everywhere and Lewis Jetta is a Wingman.

But if you keep disagreeing with everyone then eventually you will make your point, whatever that is.

+ 1, over the years Biff I have been told by many argumentative blokes, I don't know why the guy just belted me for no reason at all

So you would call Steve Johnson a key forward then rather than a small forward? And because you play in other positions you can't play a small forward role?

Small forward is a role not a definitive encapsulation of the players physical attributes. Geez you must struggle when you go to the rugby and try to offer hookers money....

The argument was about the role of small forward in relation to a premiership. I know slap stick is your "strong point" and you struggle with actual footy matters, so maybe just stick to the cute one liners when you're following BBO around.

Ok-you win.

Sadly you've bored the [censored] off BBO as well as the rest of us.

Go sniff your neighbours undies and put them back on the line before morning.

Save us from your footy genius

Your turning it around 'Stuie' to try and prove an argument that is not in play. A small forward definition, Milne can't play in other positions and takes up a valuable position that could be better used by Stevie J who can. My argument is rather than have a one trick pony, small forward we really need mids who can kick goals. A small forward as some of our people here have been crying out for over the last year or so is a wasted position in my opinion.

Let's forget the definitions who would you prefer, Stevie J or Milne? Bartell or Garlett? O'Keefe or Byrne?

Worst case scenario we finish bottom, which I honestly think wont happen but if we do Thomas BOYD will he remain Number 1, we don't need him but pretty sure Freo, Crows, Lions and Port would not say no to him. What do they wish to put on the table for the number 1 pick. You would want two players or 1 player and their first pick

Freo - Barlow and their first pick

Crows - Sloan & Mckay or Sloan + their first pick

Lions - Rockliff or Rich and first pick

Port - You wont get Hartlett or Wingard and so maybe say okay Wines + your first pick but at this rate he is heading up there to there untouchable basket

Just scenarios thrown up but as I say I don't expect us to have pick 1 or 2 and hopefully we wont need to think about it

Come on mate, no one plays within a 3 metre radius of their position these days. Clearly, whenever anyone is talking a small forward role they're not going to spend every game in the goal square waiting for crumbs, they get their own kicks as well.

If you want to talk players then let's talk actual possibilities seeing that's what this thread is about... So, who would you rather Byrnes or LeCras? Davey or Betts? That's what we're talking about here.

Interesting thinking 'Pennant', I wouldn't rule out us taking Boyd all the same if he was there for us. If he is what he is cracked up to be with Hogan it could make a great combination and free up Clark to play in the ruck giving us the extra mid like Cox rather than down a mid with Jamar.

But I do like your thinking.

When was the last time a number 1 pick was traded though? (If ever)...

2001 Freo to Hawks in return for Luke Mcpharlin & Trent Croad

Still talked about in WA to this day that they missed out on Judd and handed Meth Coast the final piece in their midfield jigsaw

LeCras is a strong forward equally as good in the air as on the ground who until his knee gave out last year was being groomed to play as a mid, they thought he had too much talent to lock him up as a forward.

Would take him in a heartbeat.

The point I was making was about the Milne,Betts and Garlett type players who will become extinct if they can't adapt. We pick up Byrnes who Geelong see only as a small forward and hasn't fit their game plan for a few years now. Their small forwards are players like Chapman, Taylor-Hunt as part of a tagging role, Christiansen, Stokes, Duncan, Selwood, Bartell, Johnson and co who all rotate through the midfield.

The position small forward (my definition) is in my mind a waste of space 'Stuie' and I think you actually agree by the examples you have given (Johnson, Jetta).

I think our problem then is our definitions of small forward. I chose LeCras and Betts as the small forward types I would go after out of that list of free agents. I class them as "small forwards" but it seems you want to go on and on and be anal about calling them "small forward/midfield types"... Whatever floats your boat

LeCras yes, Betts no. Very different types of footballers, LeCras is not a small forward.

I think Xavier Ellis is worth a crack - Should come cheap and starved of opportunity. I have seen a couple of his good games and he's bottom aged FA.

Of course this is aside from your big names like Thomas, Franklin, LeCrae, Hodge, and Mitchell.

Would handing a pick to Freo for them to pick up Boyd be the final piece of their jigsaw?

...almost forgot and of course 'Stuie'.

Also quoted the West Coast Eagles official website, are they wrong about their own player too?

Pav wont last forever, but a kid with him for two years as a chop out may be what they need, however what are they prepared to give up as they rely so heavily on Mundy & Barlow from the middle

What a delusional thread this has turned into.

You guys have got to be kidding if you think some of these names mentioned here would ever come to the MFC.

Until we show something, the very mature age recruits we have managed to secure are the best we'll get.

Clark. Dawes. Neil Craig. David Misson.

Money talks.

How the heck is LeCras not a small forward? I mean, he's small and he plays in the forward line. QED.

I will spew if we trade Watts for a draft pick. Must be a quality player or no trade can be arranged.

I would seriously entertain trading our first pick this year for a quality player.

I know Mark LeCras is out of contract and I would make him a priority.

I think Dal Santo and Harry Taylor are out of contract as well.

Drool. A forwardline of Clark, Dawes, Hogan and LeCras? Amazing.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
