I mentioned to Paul Slatterly (in Burgan's team chat) the other day the idea of having BOTH Jamar and Gawn playing, alternating between ruck duties and playing in the goal square, seemed pretty keen on it, may be something they've already considered given Jamar's form and Gawn's injuries. I think that should be the go next week. Gawn can outmark anyone with his height, and Jamar just might get a little confidence after kicking a few from 3 metres out.

Jamar should not be in the team, and will be useless as a forward

he is soft as butter, embarrassingly soft for someone of his height and weight

sad but true

He was one of only three players on the ground that didn't take a mark. The other two were subs and played half a game between them.

I didn't like Mark "Doughnut" Jamar last year, but this year I'm dead sick of him. Bring in Spencer, Gawn, Fitzpatrick...ANYONE that at least wants to look like they're trying.

Hear hear! Peas in a pod. Both adhering to the "don't kick the ball unless you abso-bloody-lutely have to, even better, try not to take possesion " school of footy philosophy.

I gotta say the hostility towards Jamar is disgusting. He has been a very good ruckman for a number of seasons. The mistake is with the club signing him for 3 years. He has shown loyalty to us signing at times when he was being pursued by other clubs for bigger money. Despite the claim by the OP, he is not the worst player the reach 100 games, he is in fact very far from it.

He is not playing well, that is bleeding obvious, IMO it's time he was dropped. He is a senior player not performing, he simply needs a run at Casey not just for him but for the symbolism of the fact that no position is safe.

Has anyone seen him kick at training? Or in a drill does he do a 360 with the ball in his hands and have a look on his face like he has to get rid of the ball because he soiled himself?

I have been told that Jamar has been told that once Gawn is ready he is out of the team. That would explain why it looks like he doesn't care and his hitouts do not go anywhere. He is now basically a back up to Gawn and only to come in if Gawn needs a rest/gets injured.

So why did Neeld agree to give him a new 3 year contract. What does the football dept see in Jamar that we don't see.

This along with the recruitment of Sellar, Pederson, Gillies, Byrnes and Rodan highlights that just maybe Neeld is not the right guy to be coach. The team has gone backwards. They did not even leave a spot open in the ND or PSD to recruit Jack Hannath.

It appears obvious now that he has made some very poor decisions in the short time he has been at the Club.

Dennis Cometti on MMM felt that after the trading and draft period the Club had gone backwards and had a negative net result.

There was Stef Martin.

Martin had 9 disposals last night, 4 kicks, 1 mark with 1 goal. Not sure on hit outs but not an upgrade.

Did we draft any ruckmen in the last draft?

Negative. We only drafted midfielders + Hogan. I have faith in Gawn, but I don't think he'll be dominant for at least a couple of years.

how about go into GWS with Magner, Gawny up forward with Clark and Watts chf. Spencer to start in Ruck changing on interchange/Deep Forward Pocket with Gawny. OUts obviously include our "Russian" he may benefit from a couple of runs in the two's, a rest for Toumpass and Garlo.

Magner is a rookie listed player who can't be added to the list unless we have a long term injury. ie. he can't currently be selected.

With all respect to Mark Jamar, and his loyalty and work over the years, can anybody here give a justification why he should play next week, or perhaps even ever again?.

We all know Gawn is the obvious long term prospect, and is tearing it up at Casey, and should get a gig next week, particularly given GWS youth, but don't forget Jake Spencer.

I know he looks like he can't kick or move, but in the end of season games he played last year, he was of MUCH greater value than Jamar. He is in fact quick, had very good efficiency with his kicking (despite the woeful heart in mouth style), takes a good mark, and is a competitive animal.

I'd like to see them both in the team somehow.

The personal attacks on Jamar are gutless and disrespectful. He's not cutting the mustard as a footballer, but why don't we just leave it at that?

Jamar is so out of form it isn't funny and never contributed much around the ground. It is more noticeable with Martin not there, and Sellar and Pederson are not the answer as backup ruck man. Given our weakness in midfield the lack of a class running ruck who contributes to general play taking marks, kicking goals etc then it is no surprise we get smashed. Gawn is untried but the ruck stocks look mighty thin at the moment

Gawn will take time but at least he and spencer would compete around the ground. With jamar we are one man down around the ground.

Yep. That's the truth, I'm afraid.

In fact Our clearances appeared to improve when Pederson was in the ruck or so it seemed at the ground havent seen stats but that is how it seemed

Jamar had 5 touches, no goals, and has had 1 effective kick FOR THE YEAR.

Love the big Russian

He is a shadow of his past and I can't disagree with the haters.... Apart from being a good tap ruckman he is useless around the ground - offers very little after the bounce

This "haters" term is so over-used. I have an opinion that Mark Jamar has had one excellent year of footy in 11. I don't hate him, I just have an opinion on his career and most recent contract. I dare say others are the same.

Jamar has been disappointing and he has not done himself any favors by his terrible timing when jumping for the ball

Landing when the ball has not reached its peak looks absurd for player at this level

The club has already shown that they are interested in drafting another young ruckman when we were beaten to the punch with Jack Hannath going to Fremantle

We have been unfortunate with injuries but the club should take the blame for that as it should have enough tall's in reserve to at least plan for injuries by having enough depth especially with a specialist ruck position

We really don't want to play Clark or even Dawes in the ruck if we can help it and Pederson and Sellar are just not capable of playing as a Ruck

This isn't the schoolyard where the tallest player is picked to be the Ruckman

Gawn is the key with Spencer being so dormant in his development

I am starting to think the game has passed Jamar by

Worst player to play 100 games of AFL?!

He was All Australian for Christ's sake.

That said, he has been absolutely pathetic this year and for much of last year.

Missing out on Jack Hannath was not ideal.

Wish I could find the article but Jamar's best year came following a year where he was out injured for a good chunk of it. He spent that time studying other ruckmen & returned a much improved player. Particularly around the ground. He got to better positions where he could influence games

Sadly he has regressed to the form that earned him the name Donuts

Mark needs to find his notebooks & do a fair bit of revision. Or he will be bypassed. At the moment, Spencil would offer more. That's damning.

Posted

Over his career per game: 2 1/2 kicks, 5 1/2 handballs, 2 marks, 21 hit-outs and 2 tackles.

They're not good stats for an AA Ruckman are they.

Posted

Jamar was better in the ruck this week, but to me a passage in the first summed up where he is at.

Was on Meth Coasts Sinclair, they had a kick out from our behind. Jamar stood, blocking space, arms out on HBF.

Meth Coast, pass to pocket, Jamar watches stationary as his man runs 15-20m to boundary side, pass goes to Jamars man as he makes half hearted belated effort to man up.

35 out, slight angle, set shot, goes to handball.

So, it's not just his work rate that has disappeared, his confidence has as well. Needs to get his mind right at Casey.

If Gawn isn't ready, Spencer should play. Half the ability of Jamar but at least he tries!
