NAB CUP 1: NORTH MELBOURNE AND RICHMOND

Featured Replies

Our side in the first game looked awesome.

The boys need game time together to get used to each other. And keep in mind that our best 22 should put up a better fight - keep Byrnes, Dawes and Rodan in the team and we had much more maturity and bigger bodies. Can't wait for Clark and Trengove to return as well.

But yes we will struggle because our midfield is too young.

he was already better than the last two seasons for mine even though he was beaten

Shouldn't persist with mediocrity anymore NSC.

I know it was NAB, but his opponent went bloody hard.

FFS, those going a bit hard, try remember we had probably over a third of a team in both games, who had never played with the squad before in anything resembling a real game, will need more than that to blen properly.

Other than a bit of first half vs tigers, not unhappy with tonight

We never looked like winning either game

we did not win

the rest is just self defence mechanism so we feel better

Not too worried. It is a new list in so many ways. We have much to learn but i like the side heaps more than last year.

Did spencer touch the ball? How much longer does this experiment have to run for? Surely he should be touching the ball by now. "Oh but we should persevere cos dean cox was unco at first". Please stop this joke.

I like Morris. Hardwick would love him.

You're kidding mate?

192cm, 95kg and gets rag dolled by a 22 year old in Vickery. Weak as [censored], Lynden, and almost as embarrassing as Spencer.

Don't mind him niggling them if he keeps getting 50m penalties with shots on goal. Thought he played a good game, just needs to improve decision making as he's got good footskills

So we picked a further 3 players injured.. please not 2012 again

We showed a bit. We look quite fit and a few of our new players were quite promising. Hogan looks the goods and Viney is a real goer. Watts and Dunn were both good down back and we ran the 2nd game out well.

Attack on the ball was good and our overall endeavor was pleasing. Just need to finish better and improve our disposal. Thought our style of play was interesting - we brought the ball back into the corridor nicely and we kicked long and accurately to position on occasions.

We had a whole bunch of new players in and it will take a little while for it to all gel. We didn't let the Tigers get away from us too much. Overall - reasonably pleased. That's a good hit out.

Macca did we look like winning either game?

No

So we still way behind North and Richmond so we have not come far

There are more positive signs in these two matches than last NAB cup.

It's only Feb and we need to calm down. Don't forget we are coming from a loooooooooooong way back.

Will get better the more the guys play together. Any team with 14 changes is going to take time to gel.

Overall a positive night will be very interesting next week in SA.

Yeah I agree, gee I hope Gawn comes on well and quickly otherwise we're stuffed if Jamar goes down.

Not that Jamar contributed much around the ground though. Scrubbed a terrible rushed kick and gave away a stupid free kick in front of goal where he tackled a bloke already bending over into him

Don't be too positive there old dee.

Just BS, sure we didn't win, but for most of the last 5 mins against north we looked like finishing over the top of them.

That said, why am I writing this, keep telling myself I should only respond to posters whose knowledge of the game I have some respect for.

Gawn's injuries just keep on coming...

Magner, Joel MAc and Jordy Mac still struggle to get a clean disposal away.

We would be screwed without Watts and Tom Mac.

I worry about how Garland and Chip combine in the air-neither will leave their man as enen nuffy Tony Shaw could see.

More positives than Negs.

The kids are great.

Dunne is our Crowley you need players like that especially now he is in back line he will stir the crap out of everyone or would you rather him be a gentleman and ask if its ok to throw a few elbows around if he can get away with it then great this isn't netball

Did we look like winning either game wyl?

would have won the first without that stupid super goal that should not exist.

at the end of the day this was about seeing which players look the goods and which dont. It was pretty clear tonight who was on their game and who was making the same old mistakes.

Agree that's its not wrist slashing time. But I just don't see how we can improve unless the midfield run harder. I'm not saying they're not trying to. The just dont. And it really hurts us when we go forward into an outnumbered forward line. Against hone Toig's both teams had a loose man in defense and they got much more from it than we did.

But we did not win

Talk is cheap

People have been saying that for 5 years with the same results.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
