The common theme amongst the group is there isn't a player who's succeeded in the middle of the ground or forward of centre. All the success stories have been behind the centre- a much easier area to perform in.

I had many a discussion with a few posters on here and tried to explain this very point. Not surprisingly to no avail.

Preview is style over substance for mine. Waste their time and precious words waffling on about something calling Jenga or Zenga.

Quite simply if in previewing the MFC in 2013 you discuss the changes from 2011 to 2012 and don't mention Misson and Jackson then I am not going to take you seriously because your understanding of footy is obviously limited. Footballers are athletes with ball skills and footy smarts. Getting Misson and Jackson to take care of the Athlete part is bloody important for mine. Craig'd be also worthy of a mention.

Some of their calls on our drafting are questionable. They give Scully an X which given the compo picks we received is a bit odd, and they've also X'ed a few players a bit too early.

I bought the prospectus(first time I've read it) this morning and I must say that all these facts and figures gave me a headache......45% of such and such stats which is equal to so much % of league numbers by % of clubs......Same stats for VFL or SANFL which must give someone employment......but unless you want to play DT or Supercoach, it is all meaningless to me......Just my opinon but I won't buy it again and prefer the AFL's Season guide......

This is true but CD will (should?) rely solely on stats to paint the picture - they won't necessarily account for impact of changes in off-field roles unless as an explanation for changes in output (which haven't really been seen yet).

Without wanting to steal BLWNBA's thunder, I thought I might bring up the AFL Prospectus draft prospects section while he's busy with his work etc.

The 2013 AFL Prospectus has a list of the top 25 potential draftees which I will cover elsewhere and which should be a great resource for later in the year. It also looks back at last year's top 25 to determine how it fared with its predictions. The players were:

* Jed Anderson

* Jordan Bourke

* Clay Cameron

* Joe Daniher

* Dayle Garlett

* Brodie Grundy

* Matthew Haynes

* Ben Kennedy

* Sam Mayes

* Liam McBean

* Todd McKay

* Troy Menzel

* Brodie Murdoch

* Jonathan O'Rourke

* Lachlan Plowman

* Mason Shaw

* Josh Simpson

* Tanner Smith

* James Stewart

* Jake Stringer

* Shannon Taylor

* Jimmy Toumpas

* Jack Viney

* Nick Vlastuin

* Lachie Whitfield

Of these, three committed to AFL teams prior to the day of the draft and another 18 were drafted (12 in the first 25, 5 more by pick 40 and Bourke was rookied). The four who missed out due to form, attitude or off-field issues were Garlett, Haynes, McKay and Taylor.

The Prospectus missed out on picking Jackson Macrae (who had then not yet debuted with the Chargers, having missed the final cut from pre-season), Oliver Wines (pushed down the order by a "lack of leg speed and body shape", Kristian Jaksch and Aidan Corr.

I think Melbourne did well to snare two of the better credentialled of the top 25 as well as Jesse Hogan who would otherwise have been a top 25 prospect.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     DRUBBING by Meggs

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either.     HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

    The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week.
