We are a very young list & many aren't ready to be on the leadership group, let alone get a game as a 'regular'.

With that, I think we'll go with one of our most senior players now at the club, who will only be around, until some of our younger brigade step up they're credentials.

So for me Rodan may be the one to replace Barts.

Firstly, your list isn't complete. Choosing one of Dawes, Garland or Joel Mac only brings the number to 7.

Secondly, you rubbish the suggestion of Watts, but suggest Joel Macdonald? That wouldn't be a "surprise inclusion", that would be one for the funny farm. Joel Mac is a depth player, at best. Watts is one of the most talented players we have and represents the future of the club.

That's my pick, and yes you read correctly, Sylvia. I think it's time something clicked with him and even though it's a gamble somewhat, being part of the leadership group might just be the thing he needs to really switch on.

So why is Nick Maxwell a premiership captain and Dayne Swan not in the leadership group. Will you see Alex Fasolo in the Collingwood leadership group anytime soon, he's one of Collingwoods brightest young talent,what about future star talent Dayle Garlett? Clear as day Watts was dropped last year and then after an injury played poorly both in form and spirit in the last rounds of the year. He's part of the future of the club but he isn't "the future". If he was pick 80 and played a few average years as a forward with some class then moved behind the ball and barely set the world on fire you wouldn't dare suggest him for the leadership group.

We are still short on genuine leadership and the best leaders are respected players. I agree Macdonald is only depth but even if he is playing most of the year at Casey why can't he be in the leadership group? He plays hard footy, trains hard and is respected. Isn't that setting an example for the other players. Neeld went for a young leadership group but he picked guys who were ready. Watts is a long way from ready to lead other players.

Watts isn't a runner or a trainer, he's a player. He has some flaws he needs to fix, sure. I observe him all the time when we play, and his passion stands out and he never looks like he wants to concede defeat. He's clearly got talent and passion for the club.

Don't blow Trengove up too much, he had a pretty poor year and looked slow. He does do the inspiring thing every now and then but I liked him better in years 1 & 2. Doesn't strike me as a vocal leader to the effect Jones does, you can hear him scream like a madman every time he wants the ball in training or during games, even from the top level

Mitch Clark didn't at any stage look like leadership material at Brisbane (IMO), but I think that's completely changed now.

But Sylvia isn't Mitch Clark.

This isn't about who are good blokes and good footballers.

It's about who are good leaders.

Good communicators is No.1 Understanding and implementing game plans would be high on the agenda.

Understanding the ins and outs of the club structure. Great work ethic. Ability to help team mates.

Definitely would like to see Dawes in the group. Seems the type of player who can make an impact among the players. Leave the captains as they are and maybe try to squeeze in another experienced player (Rodan, Byrnes) or youngster (Howe, Mckenzie) depending on pre season results.

Great question one I'd also love to know the answer too. I guess we will see throughout the year (barring injury) if

1) he can hold his spot

2) if other clubs show interest and $$$

3) if the club looks like being successful and are a legitimate chance to play finals.

I read that about Moloney as well but as they say proof will be in the pudding. He would train well with us and run around with arms flailing but come game time he constantly went missing. He was voted out of the leadership group - sulk - he wouldnt/couldnt buy into Neelds game requirements - sulk. As I have said previously for someone who was obviously looking for a new Club his last performance/attitude at Casey was abysmal and frankly I was embarrassed for him. We sent him off well at the B&F. He got a rousing reception. I watched the Bulldogs Round 4 game on Foxtel this weekend and there were glimpses of the old Moloney. It is sad when a player who was a lifelong supporter of the Club leaves under such a cloud but if the reports are true then it will be a win win situation. As far as Rivers he has given a massive part of his career to the Club and played well albeit in a different position. There was no sulking when he was played out of his normal position. I can only wish him well with his goal to play in a premiership team.

I havent heard Cols interview but to me actions will speak louder than words with him. For years we have all held such high hopes for him and I know in the last two years there have been preseason injuries and incidents but it is what he has done or not done on the field. He obviously has such high skill levels even match winning skills but he doesnt produce them consistently whether during the game or in a number of games. Neeld will be great for him. Maybe for years under Bailey etc he got by on what the Club thought he could produce. Under Neeld and Misson there are no preconceived ideas as to the level of his ability. It is time to put up or get out and hopefully Col is now ready to put up.

Don't disagree that Jones and Clark are definitely spiritual leaders, but gotta say, every time I hear/read Grimes speak I never cease to be impressed. He is a captain's captain in the making.

I'm not disappointed to see Moloney move on, I don't think his style of game suits where we are going. I never have. I do think after his manager tipped him in it mid season he left the club with some dignity and didn't rise to the media bait that was offered on many interviews. Good on him for that.

I dont believe in leadership groups too many cooks, the co captains was a bigmistake, grimes should have been solcaptain, u have one leader and a vs captain. Thats your leadership group.

Reading player interviews and watching the club videos, and knowing he is one of the top trainers; James Magner seems to be up there. Can a rookie be in the leadership group?

The leaders will be in the group, not the ones who you wish were leaders. As a leader in a team, it would be foolish to belittle the experience by giving it to the 8th person in line simply because you are at your wits end as to how to get a bloke to pull his finger out.
