I'm on record of being in total support of just about all list management decisions this year and whilst I disagree with some I'm please that Neeld has made these decisions and is backing his judgement. It's something I think didn't happen enough under Bailey.

Next year will be fascinating because we will be able to judge Neeld's judgement as we will have so many of our past players playing for other clubs. To my knowledge the following are in action:

Morton WC

Bennell WC

Gysberts NM

Martin Bris

Moloney Bris

Petterd Rich

Rivers Geel

It must almost be a record for a club to have so many players playing at other clubs in the following year.

My only major regret in that lot is Gysberts and to a lesser degree Rivers, but I'm glad he has a chance to play meaningful footy after 6 years of crud.

Fan, do you remember me calling for our list to be turned over back when Daniher was coach ? I made note about how few picks we'd had in the ND. Far less than other clubs over a 5 year period. It might be somewhere in the ether. It was about 6/7 years ago.

I'm rapt that we're finally turning the list over. There's not one player I regret losing. Not all of the new ones will make it, but Neeld is now starting to get his list.

Gysberts will be delisted within a couple of years so I wouldn't be concerned.

We've done exactly what we needed to in getting rid of all of those players.

I think a number of players in that list will be serviceable at their new clubs and a couple may do very well.

I have stated in another thread that I wouldn't consider their delisting/trading mistakes in that scenario. Some of those players had run their course at the MFC and sometimes these deals have a way of suiting all parties.

Also some of the players can't give Neeld what he needs from a physical POV and they may suit other club's game styles.

Yes I do and I think you were right. It also didn't help that the players we thought would develop in that era never did - Sylvia, McLean, Dunn, Bate, Bell,,,,,,,,,,

It doesn't matter if one or two of those players have good careers at other clubs either, it will just be interesting. If more than 2 do then you'd have to question Neeld's judgement. I don't count Rivers in that.

If we really start performing then its neither here nor there that our discards perform elsewhere.If Neeld's recruiting and training strategies produce a winning mix - then he's done the job.

I see where you are coming from but the FD job is to identify talent and develop it. If other clubs can routinely do this with our rejects I'd think that's a worry.

If they start winning flags with our rejects at front and centre then I will be concerned.

Morton WC: Skinny outside mid with questionable mental strength and poor disposal. Can run all day. Not AFL standard. If you are going to be a skinny mid you need to be as good as Lewis Jetta or Stephen Hill on the outside.

Bennell WC: Skinny outsider who cannot find the footy and cannot influence a contest physically. Good skills and speed.

Gysberts NM: Skinny insider/clearance player who cannot physically influence a contest, below average pace average and skill. Not AFL standard.

Martin Bris: Athletic big man who doesn't take enough marks and gets lost but may continue to improve. Serviceable ruckman.

Moloney Bris: Very good front running clearance mid, poor defensive side due to a failure in development/coaching. Too far gone for Neeld to remedy. Needs a change. Will no doubt get some BOGs at Brisbane, will never be an MFC regret however.

Petterd Rich: X factor forward whose ambition doesn't match his size. Should have been 6 inches taller and 10kg heavier. Like the bloke just not durable enough. Can play midfield but better options. If fit will perform well at tiges, but likely to break down.

Rivers Geel: Wanted to go.

I'm pleased of your support about all list management decisions this year. I'm interested to know what views you had/have of Neale Daniher and his football department under Paul Gardner with regard to the state of the list they left us in 2007 when he walked out?

There are lots of examples of players who have been traded out and gone on to use the rejection as motivation to prove their previous club wrong. What i don't agree with is that if more than two do well this means we'd have to question Neelds judgement. It doesn't follow that if two or more of those players goes on to be successful at another club they would ipso facto have been successful if they had remained at the dees, or indeed fitted in with our plans.

Good to see Bennell and Petterd get an opportunity. WC were allegedly going to draft Bennell with the pick after we drafted him and Craig Cameron loved Petterd and tossed up between him and Frawley at 12 in that draft so there's a logical connection there. It'll be fascinating to see how they go.

Bennell is now a lock to play in a premiership.

You judge him on the list he is building. The players he has cut are all products of another coaches approach. Totally fair though to judge him over the next 5 years in terms of list management and picking players as it is his group and his choices. Clark was a pretty good start i'd have to say.

As for other clubs wanting the so not so magnificent seven i would suggest that only Rivers would have been truly sort after, followed a fair way by Moloney. Look at the picks clubs were only prepared to give up for the rest (none in four cases).
