In tomorrow's Age CW says "New recruit very unhappy after first day at training.

Wants out, asks is it possible to challenge drafting decisions?"

"Will definitely be heading home at the end of 2014 season!"

Toumpas is not smiling here, go home factor now at 75%.

Good to see none of these boys are rake thin and looking a few years away from matching it with the the big boys

I'll make a prediction.

Flash will put in some hard yards and might even squirm his way onto the bench a few times.

He will show cameos of brilliance lest we forget he was THE ONE who effectively started the defensive forward thing in the reincarnation of the game (as we now know it).

Then it'll be about ... ooooh ... round 14-15. Flash will fail to come up after a niggling reignition of his knee. After talks with the club and a visit to the personnel department to sign off on a change in role at the club he will announce his retirement from AFL playing effective immediately.

Some well deserving rookie gets promoted for the ros and life goes on.

This is said not to denigrate the bloke as hes been a great player in the main, cruelled in the end by injuries. Just calling it as i see it (in the tea leaves lol).

Often not on the same page as BB but it seems like Davey is done, so sad about it wanted him to go out doing miracles but it seems not be. Will always remember him as super brave. I hope others do too, the way he tackled CHFs was a revelation and he invented fwd pressure. He was the must stop guy for a while, that's a fair thing to have achieved.

Hasn't even been a ball bounced this year, prob bit early to be writing him off. How about a bit of positivity... Yeh I've been to training and seen him struggling, but here's hoping a more successfull year for the dees, and therefore more opportunities up forward will allow what's physically left of Davey to reinvent himself.

I like the fact that Toumpas is rocking the gold chain.

And a zipper on his fleece top.

Thats because he's watching Leigh Brown grind Jack Viney's head into the ground...

the reality is whilst Davey has the nouse and inherent skilss he simply lacks the engine and chasis to do what he used to do. Its ALL a struggle now. Have no doubt hell play a handful more but theres now a good deal of talent lining up to compete for some spots. Eventually youth wins out

The writing is clearly on the wall for Aaron. Its not if but when. Sad in a way but its his call to a point. But at some point this too is taken away.

He's best to be mindful of his body. Its the only one he has. Its a tough gig footy and often the end is not sympathetic.

Sad but probably much better for him to retire on full pay from the club and earn it with an assistant coaching role at the club. That would be preferable to watching him struggle at Casey.

Win/win for everyone.

I just have this gut feeling that despite all the rhetoric and such from all and sundry there might well be an underlying current of thought which has him sliding from player to full time mentor throughout the year as the talent comes up to bat ( sts)

A bit early?? I wrote him off half way through 2011.....

Cue was in the rack very early in the contract.

If he gets another contract I reckon he'll have more kids.

Think of all the father/son picks we will have access to .

It's good for the long term .

Some other good news at training was Mitch Clark jogging some slow laps. He got a big cheer from all the boys as he ran passed them.

Not just good but the best news

Good news but far too great an asset to rush in any way at all. Take your time Mitch.

...

A very fitting "obituary" for one who excited us for quite a while but who time seems to have passed by. Very true re his "invention" of the defensive forward role: I still vividly remember him hovering 10-15 meters out from the Eagles kick-in and running down I don't remember who but nobody tried to play on from a kick in for quite a while after that if flash was hovering like a tow truck driver vulture.

I hope we are both wrong and he comes up fit and fast and kills the opposition defences - he says wishfully, but without much confidence.

I would have thought that the vindictive miserable sod would use the photo of Viney and Brown with a caption "Massive dissent at the much troubled moribund MFC with star recruit preparing to walk out in protest at being bullied".

You missed Cale Morton hiding behind Toumpas.

I'm loving the training ATM. Ot not all about strength and conditioning but game plan, ball movement, tackling etc.

Never did that under Bailey until February. Hence we never won a first round since 2005. Or performed well in the NAB cup. I am hoping we see a turn around in competitiveness but will wait before getting excited.....

or "federal government to open an inquiry into player abuse at the melbourne football club, a royal commission a possibility"

"minister for sport has offered a public apology to all players past and present who have suffered or been ill-treated at this club"

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
