Caroline Wilson's descent into gutter journalism

Featured Replies

The AFL blundered big time after the Kreuser cup. Carlton tanked. Everyone knew even the media. Yet the AFL chose to do nothing - missed th boat. This inaction by the AFL in the face of the obvious could be sen as tacit/percieved approval to individuals, ie do it if you wish - we will not stop it. It was only after McLean blabbered that the AFL decided to act to get rid of priorities - all to late.

Also discussions at a meeting do not mean that these things were carried out on the field. All options must be aired at meetings - whether ok or not.

It would be very hard for the AFL to prove allthis in a court and come out smelling like roses!!

It is also possible that Wilson is talking firmly through her behind!!

we will not be the only club in trouble. We may be the first, but this stuff will grow even in the next few days. Bank on it.

McLardy has llittle idea of what the likes of Bailey, Prendergast and others no longer at the club but at the infamous meeting have said to investigators.

If that is true then McLardy seems to have little idea about alot of things particularly in the lead up to 186.

He should go asap if you are right Nutbean.

I thought Caro was talking through her butt until the article appeared on the AFL website.

Penalising MFC is basically ruining the club - i hope they realise that. Disgruntled supporters who are already probably more disgruntled than just about anyone else in the league would be guranteeing the oldest club a poor future given where we are at.

How would McLardy be expected to know what Bailey and Prendergast have said to the investigators? They are no longer at the club and I doubt the investigators would have shared the information with him.

A forgotten point in al of this is that IF Carlton had won that game we would have qualified for a priority pick the following year for not winning 5 games two years running. Watts and NikNat could have been ours.

The stinking media don't talk about that do they??

The MFC is a colossally soft target.

The media have found an avenue to take the AFL to task.

The more media pressure, the worse it is for the MFC

The AFL either confesses that the system they created not only encouraged tanking

but made it unofficially obligatory or they sanction the MFC.

Knowing the AFL, I cant see the former...ie. we were wrong! yeah nah

Terry Wallet has said as much if not more than Bailey to implicate Richmond, as has Fev at Carlton

(not that blind Freddie couldn't see it for himself at the Kruiser Cup ) - then there's West Coast, the Filth etc etc.

I was quietly confident, it would disappear and the AFL would take measures to change the system,

but the issue being constantly raked up by the media might force their hand.

Just what we need

Excactly. There are so many ignored facts in what appears to be a pretty overt agenda.

The 3 whose testimonies have apparently incriminated us are Bailey, Prendegast and Mahoney.

Bailey and Prendegast have been sacked. They have axes to grind - but what is Mahoney saying? Surely he is defending us - if not he should stand aside until the enquiry has concluded. Do AFL rules include whistleblower provisions?.

The only way the AFL can conclude this enquiry with any credibility is by broadening the terms of reference to include - at the very least - the Kreuzer Cup

If the AFL have either the temerity or short-sightedness to punish us then i have the sense all hell will let loose.

Once this is put to bed those traitors within the club ought be identified and espunged

. Cards marked not welcome..EVER.

This is now very much a battle of wits..i suggest some opposing us are only half equiped.

The problem is no one has come out and squeeled against Cartlon or any team that have tanked. Unless some one comes out of the woodwork with direct allegations or evidence they will never have a case to answer for.

Rot in hell.

Maybe he told the truth.

Sack him.

Tanking. Heh. What a great idea that was.

I hope all those that cheered that dirty Mexican's goal that day are feeling quite ill when they think back to it.

Brock if i ever meet you mate the Sunbury boy in me will awake.

DIRTY RAT

Just quietly, how boring must it be to follow anyone other than Melbourne? And people call us irrelevant!

'May you live in interesting times'.

I can see now how it is a curse.

Indeed.

I wonder what they told new recruits like Dawes about this. 'Dont worry, it will all blow over?'

even with this so called "meeting" bobbing up i still really fail to see how the AFL will be able to convict us of it! it's not as though there would be any proof that they could find that would convict us of this except to take the words of the so called 'witnesses'!

I was for it then and haven't changed my mind.

But I should have realised that the club couldn't even do that properly.

The problem is no one has come out and squeeled against Cartlon or any team that have tanked. Unless some one comes out of the woodwork with direct allegations or evidence they will never have a case to answer for.

So assistant coach Libba saying that the Blues tanked and confirmed by Fev is nothing.

What's the most they can do,take Jack Viney off us?

I'll bet my boat nothing comes of this because at least 6 other clubs did the same thing and the AFL know it.

The AFL dangled the priority pick and every club in the position made it happen.

Put a nice big juicy bone in front of a starving dog and tell him not to eat it!

Get your hand off it Vlad!

Caroline Wilson is a busy body. I don't rate her writing at all. I think that Martin Flanagan and Emma Quayle write good stuff but the quality that Wilson writes is often not better than the beat up junk that you get in the Herald Sun. Tanking investigation into Melbourne is over. The AFL are now far too interested in Adelaide and Kurt Tippett to care about us. We are a completely different club from the one in the Bailey era.

Hands up who doesn't count the days between one epic Melbourne disaster and the next?

It's just a joke that at every turn there is a little man hiding in the bushes waiting to punch us in the nuts.

Never wishes an injury on anyone, but Brock McLean, I hope you break both your thumbs Twittering. Knobhead.

You're wasting your time trying to reason with this [censored], he'd rather see the club crash and burn just to prove a point.

I'll need to be put in restraints tomorrow listening to Pelican denham gloat.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
