Kristen Jaeskch will go higher then Shaw, Taylor Garner will go between 10-20 for certain, no way Macrae will go past the top 10 and Nathan Wright and Tanner Smith are not a top 20 picks.

Disagree on Wright & Smith.

I only rate Shaw just ahead of Jaksch, but for the reasons stated I have Shaw going a good 13 places earlier.

I've got MacRae only just outside my top 10, probably because I have Stringer and Shaw in there compared to yourself.

As for Garner it's all just a matter of opinion I guess. I may not have seen the best of him.

How happy would GWS be atm, as much as I hate to say it.

They certainly have some exciting prospects in the top 20 to choose from.

Posted

They shouldn't be.

Pick 123 and 129 can do that.

What I am saying is those trades specifically obtained those picks 'to get the deal done' on our end.

If we don't use them that we didn't get out our full investment.

But yes, 73 and 74 may end up being rookie upgrades.

Unless the whole idea was to get players who were under contract off our list without having to pay them out.

JD is right - upgrade from the rear (no jokes please).

So if we don't use 73 and 74 then that shows that we didn't get full value for the Martin and Gysberts trades. The Morton trade is irrelevant is it was what I would call a 'Trade Deletion.'

Again, it can simply be for flexibility and if we can secure Jacobs in the PSD or we want Banner as a Delisted FA then 73 and 74 might have been seen as an 'insurance policy' of sorts in case we strike out with other targets or if Jetta, MacDonald, Sellar, et al. don't impress upon their return tomorrow.

We already have full value for these trades.

1. They are off our books.

2. We don't have to pay their salaries in 2013.

I think that you are too forgiving.

The trades were Martin for 53 and 73 and Gysberts and 63 for Pedersen and 74.

At a very base level - we bought these products and it would be shame if they are wasted but if they are just seen as 'insurance' or 'flexibility' then that is fine if not optimal.

Great effort.

One thing - I don't see the point in getting 73 and 74 back in trades if we are going to use them as rookie upgrades. If we do it would show marginal poor planning.

But brave new world and all that it does give flexibility...

But I expect Adelaide to be kicked out of the draft early and that we will delist/sign a couple more before draft day.

I'm thinking those late picks that we got back were for insurance purposes.

Club was probably thinking Piclks 49 & 53 were going to be traded for Ray in which cases the later picks then would have come into play.

Then again who really knows?

Great work lots to think about

What about Sam Mayes at 4. Have seen some footage looks a real player Mix of inside and outside skills

Worth a look

For what it is worth we have interviewed Joel Cross the Margery Medalist from this year.

Joel indicated that Melbourne were quite keen on picking him up in the ND.

Interesting. Thought he'd be a chance as a fifth round or rookie draft pick. Young midfielder who's pretty lightly built but knows how to find it. With us likely to draft Viney & Wines I didn't think he'd be on our radar.

Nice looking girlfriend (on the left) - Joel Cross and Brad Symes tie for Magarey Medal

From what I've seen (very little) and read of Paul Marschall, he looks a good fit for us but I've also read that there are some doubts about whether he's going to nominate for the draft.

Nice work TD, but like Jack said - Marschall is out and swap Evans for Magner

Both right about Marschall. Pretty shattered about this one.

Young Dog says no to AFL career

Seems to just want to concerntrate on his life outside of footy, so good for him.

Updated my draft to reflect as such. Easily done. Realised today that I had overlooked Leigh Osborne from Frankston Dolphins in the VFL.

I think it's fair to say that Wines will be our pick #4. Of course, we get Viney at 27, but what's left?

I'd love for us to get our hands on Nick Rippon at our next pick (50ish). Hopefully he will still be there.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
